If you ask me, there is hardly any good music outside of the US and the UK. There's ACDC and Neil Young, but that's aboot it.
Anyways, this thread is an appreciation of probably the only period in German post-classic music that is worth mentioning. In the late 90s a counterpart to Britpop was formed in Hamburg called "Hamburger Schule". As always, a number of talented bands was followed by myriad horrible pretenders which eventually buried the movement in the early 2000s.
Here are some noteable examples, please comment and/or add more:
Universal Tellerwäscher - Die Sterne (yes, the lead singer is indeed Jaws, the number one henchman of the James Bond movies)
Sie wollen uns erzählen - Tocotronic
