Chuck Berry ... johnny b. goode. i mean, it is.
Bon Jovi ... this will be blasphemy to bon jovi fans, but i wasn't big on em back in their heyday. not that i didn't think the man himself wasn't infinitely doable, but... well, meh. and a bon jovi lyrical snippet qualifies, in my mind, as one of the five worst lyrics ever written. however, if we go by fairly recent output, there is *one* song i dig. i think it's catchy. (meaning i'll no doubt catch flak for it.) it's my life.
Def Leppard ... oh dearrrrrr. see, i love def leppard. can't i just do a top ten? (shuddup, kathleen.) photograph. (closely followed by a top ten i won't do here. ahem.)
Foghat ... slow ride. one of those kathish anthemic soundtrack songs. man, did that band kick major bootay live, too.
Foreigner ... long long way from home. love the whole debut album. aside from that, i've got a soft spot for 'urgent'. it's got its own lil funky groove thang goin on.
Franki Valli & the Four Seasons ... can i count can't take my eyes off you, even though it was without the four seasons? i'm gonna count it, dammit. runner-up would probably be 'let's hang on'.
Aretha Franklin ... oof. chain of fools, say a lil prayer, respect, think, you like me feel a natural woman... i think i need a marlboro.
Tom Jones ... she's a lady.
Mamas & the Papas ... california dreamin.
Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa ... dirty love is my fave out of several i truly love. zappa's the kinda guy i need to explore further, but i can only take him in small doses. usually, i'd much rather read him than listen to his music. the only cd that seems to be an exception to the above rule? the mothers live at the fillmore, the one with bwana dik and the cover of happy together. mwhahaha.
Prince ... the cross
Cat Stevens ... trouble... (butbutbut i need a top *twenty* for cat.)
Stooges ... i wanna be yer dog
Three Dog Night ... yeah, they get slagged all the time and we all know why, but their comps are still mucho listenable to me. i could be doing another top ten list here, especially for some of the lesser knowns i love. i'll go with out in the country
Van Halen ... of course, that debut album just smokes with its bad lil self. i love all of it, with the possible exception of "jamie's crying"... runnin with the devil, aint talkin bout love, eruption, the kinks cover, aint talkin bout love, lil dreamer, i even love the cover of ice cream man. as much as i dig bits n pieces all the way thru van hagar, i'll stick with the debut and say... ice cream man. mwhahaha. what. have pity on my poor soul. i desperately need a marlboro, sleep, sex, and ice cream, in that order.
