I heard on the radio today that it was 40 years ago today Sgt.Peppers was released so I got on line to spread the news. It looks like you beat me to it though Spike. That was a great article you posted. Thanks for sharing it.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. I bought it at K Mart on my way home from school. I opened it up and put it on the turntable. It was different. Very different than anything I had ever heard. I wasn't sure that I liked it. Within You Without You was just too weird. I played it several times before I could make up my mind. But after a while it became less alien and more hypnotic. And I played it over and over and over again for days...
And I'm playing it right now. :grinthumb

I didn't get a chance to play Sgt. Pepper today, but I certainly will this weekend...anyway, I've played Sgt. Pepper oodles of times in the last 6 months, anticipating the 40th anniversary. It never fails to delight me. And yes, I remember how unique and wonderful it sounded the first time I heard it still...and that was even after having already owned '67 albums by other artists with Pepper cover versions on them before I heard the original (which I received for Christmas that year).

That is quite a list. I went through and found 10 that I would not want on my music listening list. The rest I would love to play anytime, most over and over.

well, where's the fun if you don't tell us which ten?:D

If I were going to listen to this list more than once here are ten that would get skipped on the second time through:

1. "59th St Bridge Song" Harpers Bizarre
2. "The Happening" The Supremes
3. "Daydream Believer" The Monkees
4. "Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out)" The Hombres
5. "For What It's Worth" Buffalo Springfield (good but overplayed)
6. "Windy" The Association
7. "The Beat Goes On" Sonny & Cher
8. "Georgy Girl" The Seekers
9. "To Sir With Love" Lulu
10. something else by the Supremes

OK. Here is the 10 I would leave off. Actually I made it 11. Just threw an extra one in for good measure. Don't take it that these songs that are not good. They are either unfamiliar or just not for me. Based on the number of songs Spike listed that I really like I am going to listen to all the ones I am not familiar with. There may be a few gems I missed here.:phones:

"Skinny Legs and All" Joe Tex
"I Second That Emotion" Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
"Everlasting Love" Robert Knight
"I'm Wondering" Stevie Wonder
"Get On Up" The Esquires
"Your Precious Love" Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
"Funky Broadway" Wilson Pickett
"Cold Sweat" James Brown
"All I Need" The Temptations
"Sweet Soul Music" Arthur Conley
"The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" The Marvelettes
