I have always liked the guitar and before the Beatles, Stones and everyone else I used to listen to instrumental albums by Dwayne Eddy or The Ventures. But one 45 that I played many times was a guitar instrumental called "Scratchy" by Travis Wamack. Back then I had no idea how he got his guitar to make that sound.
I still have the single in my music room.

Not really a "rock" instrumental, but a memorable one. I thought it'd be a nice tribute to Marvin Hamlisch, who passed away today. RIP.

This is SO easy. The single greatest rock instrumental ever put to record would be Stevie Ray Vaughan's recrafting and remastering of Jimi Hendrix' Little Wing. He took the song, he made it his own (IMHO) and I have to believe that if Jimi ever had the opportunity to hear it, he would have been pleased.
