Def Leppard was a great heavy metal band along with Van Halen and Motorhead.

But I still have to say I think Iron Maiden or Judas Priest ruled the 80's.

I wasn't an active listener at those days, but I'd also say Maiden...

Honestly I don't consider Def Leppard in the same league as Saxon, Priest and Maiden. They are as much pop/rock as light metal. Don't get me wrong I like them okay, just not a true Heavy Metal band in my books.

I disagree, LG, Def Leppard can jam with the best of them. So can Van Halen. Saxon, Priest, and Maiden are a bit heavier, but not so much so that they out class Def Leppard. Def Leppard is more ballad driven than Priest or Maiden, but they can still jam heavy metal style.

White Lightning by Def Leppard (Adrenalize album)

Ring of Fire by Def Leppard (Retro Active album)

I can pick more, but what most people remember from Def Leppard are the Popular rock ballads that the radio played .

I'm going with Judas Priest.

The closest Meatloaf ever was to singing on a "metal" album was when Ted Nugent used him to re-recorded regular lead vocalist Derek St. Holmes' vocals on five tracks on Ted's Free For All album after Holmes quit the band in 1976. :)
