Rock music is about image. The bands that had the mass appeal had very outgoing and at times considerable shock value attached to them.
Canadian bands for what ever reason, did not. They tended to keep to themselves and did not live the typical rock and roll lifestyle (Sex, drugs and mayhem). Bands like the Stones, Zeppelin, Sabbath and even the Beatles were always in the media. BTO, was about their music, very little about their
personal lives ever entered the media. Unfortunately, it seems that many fans believe that rock bands are about image. This prevented many up and coming Canadian bands of the 70's from recieving only marginal success outside of Canada. BTO was well known for about 3-4 years, but became just
as unknown afterwards. But in that 3-4 years, they were one of the best.
I prefer them over Zep, Sabbath, Kiss and the rest of the Hard Rock bands.
4 Wheel Drive is the best drivin tune ever.
Randy Bachman is an institution in Canada. He's easily the most important
single individual in terms of development of popular music in this country.
