I found a copy of Freeways a few weeks ago, forgot about it until I heard one of BTO's songs today while I was shopping. Even though the band had come to the end of the road, this album is better than I gave it credit for when I got blasted by a hardcore fan earlier in this thread...:heheh:

So now I have the complete set of BTO except the very first "Brave Belt" album before they changed their name.

I've heard this one and was pretty impressed, it wasn't anything absolutely, mindnumbingly brilliant, but it's some good, solid rock n roll.. Can't eve have too much of that:D

Bto, probably best rock band from canada. Coined for developing
blue collar rock. Even their late 70's albums,, without randy, street action and rock n roll nights are good. The thing that made them awesome was variety of different sounds that they had in their music. In their tme no other band had their distinctive
sound.

I became a fan of theirs when I was a young teenager myself Berndawg. Some people always criticized them for one thing or another, but I will always have a soft spot for them in my heart and they were the most popular rock band in the world for over a year, not bad for a bunch of prairie boys.

Rock music is about image. The bands that had the mass appeal had very outgoing and at times considerable shock value attached to them.

Canadian bands for what ever reason, did not. They tended to keep to themselves and did not live the typical rock and roll lifestyle (Sex, drugs and mayhem). Bands like the Stones, Zeppelin, Sabbath and even the Beatles were always in the media. BTO, was about their music, very little about their
personal lives ever entered the media. Unfortunately, it seems that many fans believe that rock bands are about image. This prevented many up and coming Canadian bands of the 70's from recieving only marginal success outside of Canada. BTO was well known for about 3-4 years, but became just
as unknown afterwards. But in that 3-4 years, they were one of the best.
I prefer them over Zep, Sabbath, Kiss and the rest of the Hard Rock bands.

4 Wheel Drive is the best drivin tune ever.

Randy Bachman is an institution in Canada. He's easily the most important
single individual in terms of development of popular music in this country.

4 Wheel Drive always brings back good memories for me and it is one of the best driving tunes ever.

My Mom bought me a biography about BTO ages ago, and I soaked it all up so I knew a little more about them and their struggles before they made their massive breakthrough.

I have Randy Bachman rated way up there myself as far as our home grown musicians goes.

CF Turner one of the best voices in rock. Head On is actually my fav album from them. All songs rock, especially Away from Home, and Find out about love. The guitar work on Find out about love is the best.

Though I wouldn't put them in the league of CCR and the Stones, I listen to their stuff over all others. It's how diverse the bands music is, that's important to me. BTO shows how difficult it is to sustain a career as a Canadian band. They were the biggest band out of Canada at the time and still could only keep it going for about 4 years. Love their first album too. No other band at the time could really produce that heavy feel they had.

I remember getting BTO's debut for Christmas, and pretty much wore that old vinyl album out. It is a fantastic album that often gets overlooked, and as I tell many critics they are not trying to be fancy or invent anything new, just playing straight up thundering rock and roll, and I have never stopped enjoying their music, almost 40 years and counting now.

I didn't have that problem, my stereo also had an 8 track player.

I also had a portable 8 track I bought from Sears. Cassette decks were more
expensive and so were the cassettes. 8 tracks were a dime a dozen.

At one time, I had a record, cassette, 8 track and cd for the same album.
Nazareths Greatest from 75, I believe. I still have some 8 tracks. If I can
ever find an in car 8 track player, I'm going to install it.
