Hey Soot. I spent 45 minutes here late morning today and I posted, but I must of must forgot to hit the submit reply. I amaze myself sometimes.

BTW, I'm not here to wield vengeance for your review on Oriental Sunshine.D)

Just wanted to check these guys out as I noticed them on your sig. Seems to be a lot videos missing. You might be in the middle of changing them to Grooveshark(?).

First of all, what is emo? That's a new one for me. A derivative of screamo?

For the most part I enjoyed these guys. Great melodies and hooks. Good time sig shifts/tempos from the metal side to the pop side. Progressive.

The vocalist at times whines, however he can belt it out in unison with the heavier side of things. Some of the time sig shifts from the metal to the pop is at times too extreme for me. Disconnects me though other times they do a great job in the transfer.

Overproduced IMO, too polished, sugar coated. With that being said I don't think it's necassarily a bad thing. Some albums what I consider are overproduced work very well.

"The Feel Good Drag" was about the best tune I heard from the vids. I could sit down and listen to a whole album. A good blend of alternative(grunge) and punk pop.

Hey Joe, you could've come in and been as critical as you wanted and I would've been happy enough that you took the time to come in and listen. As is I loved your critique because as good criticism does it makes the original listener listen deeper to a band he already likes and have a new appreciation for things while putting certain elements in perspective. BTW, I'm sorry you had to do this twice but it only makes me appreciate your time even more.

Joe, Emo is the most useless genre tag I've ever seen honestly and it's more of a tag more the rock of today's youth honestly and the modern day Goth look a lot of the fans use today. The technical origin comes from a genre of punk that started more confession Emo (tional) lyrics. To me if this started more expressive lyrics or sounds in today's music then I'm all for it and Hell rock is always going to fit the youths as they have the most energy for it honestly. The negative aspects that have been lumped into liking an Emo band is that supposedly you become suicidal, like to wear eyeliner and cry a lot. Screamo is actually a louder version of Emo and therefore it is the derivative of Emo.

Now on the missing songs I know my Grooveshark links in my sig are flaky because of Grooveshark lately but i double checked all the vids in my thread and they work for me. Two said error which is always temporary but when I double click them to play on youtube they work. Thanks for the heads up because I just updated this thread recently and always like to know when I may have gaps. Youtube does remove stuff A LOT!

I loved reading about the structure of the band from you and loved how you noticed the vocalist is versatile. The whining critique is fair as well and he does has such a clear crystalline voice that it may sound too polished for some. That particular vocal fits my style though but to hear a vocal like that scream equally impresses me. The pop element also is in my court but seeing that you can pick up on the metal and progressive elements is great. Most people wouldn't even listen enough to pick up on that.

"The Feel Good Drag" is a favorite of mine as well and Anberlin at their peak of aggression. I did feel that Fin would've been your cup of tea as well as it's epic and has a great progressive build. It's my personal favorite and the album it comes off of "Cities" would be my highest recommendation to you. It's the darkest and moodiest BUT the debut "Blueprints...." is the heaviest! Once again, thanks for stopping by Joe! A pleasant surprise for sure!

I must admit Soot I've being feeling guilty as you have spent alot of your time listening to "my" music so I thought I should return the favour.

Thanx for your description of emo as I'm always interested in how labels, sub-genres, tags, etc. come to be. I agree with you on certain labels and tags as useless as I see placing alternative on the "Seattle Sound" bands like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc. as alternative is a huge umbrella. Also I never liked the term grunge either, though I tend to use it so others know the references and similarities I'm speaking of.

Also I forgot to state it was good to hear "Christian" lyrics for a change.

No question the vocalist has a fantastic screaming range. "Aggression" is a good word that fits certain structural apexes in the songs.

I took it easy on you this time Soot. Next time... j/k

Oh no, I'm going to get roasted! Maybe I'll sneak in a band i actually don't like as a coverup!

Well Soot Tray was rattling some Anberlin out last night and I have to say the old foot was a tapping (I would have clapped too but it's difficult when you're washing the pots). Anyway I liked what I heard "Change The World" and "Glass To The Arson" turned my head. So the upshot is when she's out I may be sneaking this on.

Awesome Sox! It's great to see you debut in one of my threads! Trays a good influence and it seems you both are influential in a good way to each other and balance each other out! I will look forward to hearing more about your experiences as they come!

Anberlin were fantastic live, and the crowd went wild throughout the whole set. After seeing them I got off Harkat their first few albums, then downloaded the new one. So far I've only listened to one song, but it's a cracker!
