I have to say I'm quite happy with my list of 15 - apart from one case which I will describe further below, I did consider picking Southern Man over Heart Of Gold and The Last Resort or Sad Cafe over Take It Easy but this was purely down to my own preference.

I must admit I'd struggle make mine a 'one song per artist' list, but this is predominantly due to the Pink Floyd songs - I consider Shine On You Crazy Diamond to be my absolute favourite rock song of all time, but Echoes, Comfortably Numb and Time have to be in my top 15 as well.

Having said this there were a few songs by artists I hadn't mentioned that I did give some consideration to including - oddly enough most of these seem to have been mentioned - I did think about including Layla and Reelin' In The Years, but the one that came closest was R.E.M.'s Man On The Moon, which is one of my favourites. It was between this and Where The Streets Have No Name but I think the U2 song has the edge (terrible joke, I know :bonk: ).

One thing which I think might be a good idea would be that, once a certain number of lists had been posted, the votes for each song would be added up and any songs with only one vote would be eliminated, with the remaining songs being included in some kind of massive poll where you had to vote for your 10 (or 15) favourites from the list.

By the way, Man On The Moon is a fantastic song!

I thought it would be interesting to have a look at how things stand right now with this thread and I've reviewed all the lists, here's a couple of things I've found.

So far the following songs have been included in more than one list:

4 votes:
• Hotel California (Eagles)
• Stairway To Heaven (Led Zeppelin)

3 votes:
• While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The Beatles)
• Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd)

2 votes:
• The Long And Winding Road (The Beatles)
• Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Black Sabbath)
• Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple)
• Layla (Derek and the Dominos)
• Sultans Of Swing (Dire Straits)
• L.A. Woman (The Doors)
• Riders On The Storm (The Doors)
• Tightrope (ELO)
• Green Manalishi (Fleetwood Mac)
• The Trooper (Iron Maiden)
• All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix Experience)
• When The Levee Breaks (Led Zeppelin)
• Free Bird (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
• Time (Pink Floyd)
• Echoes (Pink Floyd)
• Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 (Pink Floyd)
• Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)
• Gimme Shelter (Rolling Stones)
• Doctor, Doctor (UFO)

Band/artists with the most different songs listed:
10 – Pink Floyd
9 – The Beatles, The Rolling Stones
8 – Led Zeppelin
5 – Deep Purple
4 – AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica, Queen
3 – Cream, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Eagles, Iron Maiden, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Paul McCartney, Rainbow, Rush

I can't say I'm surprised by the top four bands here, although I am pleasantly surprised to see Pink Floyd top this list - my guess would have been The Rolling Stones or The Beatles, who probably have a greater number of widely recognised songs.

Well, for better-or-worse, here it is. I tried to select the songs from different eras that are my rock sound.

Twilight Zone is, and always has been at the top of this list for me. The rest I selected as I thought of them, in no particular order.

1. Twilight Zone - Golden Earring

2. Highway To Hell - AC/DC

3. Girls Got Rhythm - AC/DC

4. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith

5. Shakin' All Over - Johnny Kidd & The Pirates

6. You Really Got Me - The Kinks

7. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones

8. Light My Fire - The Doors

9. Break On Through - The Doors

10. Somebody To Love - The Jefferson Airplane

11. Day Tripper - The Beatles

12. Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin

13. Good Times, Bad Times - Led Zeppelin

14. Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band

15. Yours Is No Disgrace - Yes
