Unless we crack the physics problem of FTL travel we are destined to extinction on our little blue ball.
We don't have to develop faster than light travel to be able to start developing colonies on other worlds or even in deep space. We have all the groundwork to such endevours already thought out and largely tested.

Terraforming in our star system may be a very distant goal but domed settlements on certain planets or even moons is well within the realm of what we could already be working on if the desire to perserve the species would ever outweight it's inherant greed and shortsightedness.

There aren't very many good UFO (the band) videos on YouTube, most are of bootleg quality. This one isn't too bad.

my favourite lp of theirs is misdemeanor, which doens't seem to be liked that much by ufo fans. apart from having 'meanstreets'[favourite ufo song, it has my favourite ufo guitarist, atomik tommy m!!!
i just love the actual sound of his guitar and its so upfront and loud.
of course schenker is great and so is chapman. i know all fans SHOULD say SCHENKER, but i prefer tommy m.
the trouble is he is on so few ufo tracks.

misdemeanor is my favourite ufo album actually, i expect i'm the only person in the world to utter those words!
after having a few ufo lps for quite a while i bought this record and was genuinely surprized at the sound and quality.

i've got:
lights out
obsession
no place to run
mechanix
misdemeanor
force it
plus a compilation of stuff from the other albums.
my favourite songs of theirs are 'this kid's' and 'meanstreets.'

i've tried a few times to listen to stuff when schenker re-joined but to me its so inferior to his music i already own.
as for vinnie moore!
no way!!! thats like deep purple with steve morse. no way! both of their playing techniques are a little bit too modern for ufo imo.
plus to be honest i feel a little embarrassed listening to this 'new' ufo. especially the lyrics.
i mean, there are only so many fast cars, and bars with fast girls in them, that you can sing about!!! some of the words are a bit cringeworthy.
still, they have to make a living out of something they know, don't they?

I partially agree with you Khor, we are so primitive we are still fighting over tribalism and spending most of our money on ways to exterminate each other. That money would allow us to colonize our solar system in a few centuries.

However, my main posit is right, we cannot expect the human race to survive if we don't get out of our solar system. One solar event could wipe us all out, and there is no technology we could invent to avoid that fate.

We need colonies, world ships and leadership...certainly not going to happen in my lifetime.

Yes a solar event could wipe us out even if we are spread all over our system. However; as it now stands, a much more frequent planetary event could wipe us out now. Our chances for ultimate survival increase exponentially with each new world we inhabit.

But perhaps more relevant in the short term is the fact that colonizing our system will unlock new sources of wealth and energy that seem fantastic to our Earthbound sensibilities. Or put another way there literally is gold in them thar stars.

I don't want to post too much music from the band UFO since there is an official UFO thread that is a much better place to post and discuss UFO (the band) music. So how about music about UFO's? Or about space travel, or science in general? Here is a good one to start with.
