I can't do shots of tequila anymore though. No way.
The problem with tequilla for many people is that they drink other stuff all night, then throw in a handful of shots of tequila. Mixing poisons will always make you feel like shit, I don't care how much total booze you can handle. It's the mixing (especially with mixes other than water, such as coke/pepsi or energy drinks) that gives you the hangovers.
Back in the day, I could easily drink an entire bottle of booze in a night. Even without switching alcohols back and forth over the evening, I'd get hangovers often enough to swear it off for the morning hours the next day (only to do it again the following evening). The problem most of the time was mixing booze with soft drinks. it's a different type of sugar and that is what causes the problems. When I was heavily drinking tequila and drinking it straight up, I had no problems. Same with whiskey, scotch, etc. When I started swilling down mixed drinks, that shitty feeling would start coming back the following day.
Plus, when you go from say Captain Morgan to tequila to Sex on the Beach to Rumple Mintz, your body is bound to say "**** YOU and everything you are doing to me tonight".
Stick with one type of booze and either drink it on the rocks, mixed with water, or straight up and I guarantee you that if it's something that you like the flavor of, you'll feel 1000% better the next day as opposed to mixing combos of stuff.
