Really chuffed to hear this Riff That's how I've always viewed the change in Metallica - just growing and wanting to experiment. I'll disagree with anyone who says they gave up on thrash to become more popular. I first became a fan back in '88 so it's not like it didn't come as a big surprise to me to hear their change in sound. I guess I'm unlike a lot of Metallica fans in that I love Load and like Re-Load.

As I said I genuinelly believed it at the time but someone opened my eyes and I was willing to change my outlook on things, I no longer believe in the term sellout....well not when it comes to bands who just change.
I think a sellout is a band who does stuff they don't want to do for money.

Then one more thing bugs me, James wouldn't let Newsted do a side project or be fired from the band, here is a side project, bit hypocritical. Newsted should feel pretty rorted.

One thing that kinda concerns me about a future Metallica album, the thing with metal in recent months is as much as there has been great great releases, the big names of metal for the most part have released some of the biggest abominations, and Metallica have done that before, I always wonder if they have a St Anger 2 in them, not in the same style just the same resulting backlash. Metallica I hope expand and improve on Death Magnetic, a lot less ballady type songs, maybe have 1 or 2 as I think too many kind of ruins the enjoyment and the uniqueness of a good ballad.

You know I've told a few friends about this very thing.

Bands like Rhapsody of Fire, Kamelot, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Blind Guardian, Eluveite, Edguy, Sonata Arctica and all the rest come out with QUALITY...I mean STRONG quality...while bands like Metallica and Queensryche (these days) put out material that FAIL in comparison.

They didn't progress or expand on what they did that was good.

I read a comment that says the LuLu album works out better if you just consider it more of a Lou Reed album with Metallica as guest accompaniment. I checked out the last track and really dig it. It's very chill, Reeds vocals are understated and don't have that annoying Bob Dylanesque vibe like in "The View". The lyrics aren't that far out there. I think while this is nowhere near metal it shows a good track off of the album. This is like musical meditation and is the perfect chill vibe for the poetry content the album was trying to incorporate. This track is my favorite Reed material I've heard outside of the Lost Highway material though I'm still a little green to Reed in general.

I always saw the album as mainly Lou Reed and I still hated it. Lou Reed is the major reason I consider this the worst album of 2011.
Junior Dad was the clincher for me, lucky I didn't have it on cd or it would have gone flying with St Anger.

"Junior Dad" was the last song that got you to hate the album? Dude, I loved it all the way through! It was really a song you just float with all the way through. I love that guitar and how it wraps around Lou Reeds vocals with the perfect paced drums. The whole song is a trance and is actually very ambient! I feel like I could be doing this the whole time:

Nah the first song Brandonberg Gate got me hating the album. I just felt like I should see if the rest would make up for it and get better, then it never did, got worse, and I was pissed off at those 89 minutes.
The vocals were delivered in some parts like they should but for the most part he was like a drunken monkey, Metallica lacked any innovative riffs, it was repetitive stuff.
I respect those who have the patience to enjoy this, I for one had none, I like Lou Reed in his other previous work but this is St ****ing Anger part 3. lol
This wasn't a Metallica album but Metallica played a part on it.
