I am not taking anything away from the numerous talented soul artists, but the fact is they are mostly forgotten by younger music fans today. Heck you are my age so I understand why you've become attached to them that is your choice.

That's not why. My deep appreciation for soul music is fairly recent. Even so, I probably would have noticed there were no soul artists on the list several years ago and mentioned it then too. It pretty much sticks out like a sore thumb.

However Nolo is right, you have not been here for long enough or contributed much of substance to make any determinations about the forum, you admit you visit infrequently and your pattern of posting has been consistent.

I'll get this right out on the table. I have been here for a long time, years in fact. I first joined the original board back in something like 2001. I haven't always posted under this name. A few people here know who I am, including Lynch.

I'm not seeing the point of arguing over a list comprised of favorites from multiple members of the forum. I could understand if a group of snooty critics or RS put it together, but this was based on the concensus of forum members

It's based on an aggregate. I doubt that you could ever get much consensus here. Like I said, Freddie Mercury won the poll and there are plenty of people here who can't stand him.

Let's just show our appreciation for those we love that are on the list and not get into arguments just because someone we enjoy didn't make the cut.

Fine but my observations were never about any certain someone. They were about a collective. I don't care that Otis Redding isn't on the list. I don't care that any given artist isn't on the list.

Decide then - do you care about it or not.

I obviously care enough about no soul artists being on the list to post about it, whatever that's worth. It wouldn't need to be any certain singer though, which is was my point in the post above. Otis and Aretha were just examples of singers who could have made it. It could just as eaasly have been Sly Stone, James Brown, Tina Turner or Marvin Gaye.

Not a single soul singer on the entire list. Even Otis Redding or Aretha Franklin couldn't scare up the necessary two or three votes to make the top 50. Wow.

Show me a true poll result of your choosing where they do make the top 50 for greatest vocalists?

When you can produce this, then I will agree with you, otherwise this is just your opinion (opinions are like assholes, everyone has one)

Do you mean a poll that was taken here or anywhere?

Either way, it's just my opinion. I wouldn't be stating anyone else's opinion. Some other poll result is nothing more than the opinions of the people who voted in it. This poll is nothing more than the opinions of the people who voted in it.

And yet, you've yet to create a thread to discuss any of those artists. Even if there are threads on them already, you've refused to go to them and discuss them, as far as I know.

Also, you haven't really gotten any decent responses in terms of soul artists in this thread, all you've gotten is an argument, and a very very terrible one at that. Considering everything we've said to you would be beneficial to you if you were to just post in threads about soul music, or create threads, and yet, you refuse to do that as well.

So...if there isn't any soul discussion going on at this forum, make the discussion, otherwise, you have nothing to argue about.

Here's a list of Rolling Stones' (and I almost hate quoting them) 100 greatest vocalists of all time. I'm pretty sure this was voted on by a bunch of artists and perhaps some industry people. You'll note that not only was Aretha Franklin voted #1 but that Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder and James Brown also rank in the top 10. Al Green, Tina Turner and Smokey Robinson are in the top 20.

I see you get my point :)

It all boils down to an opinion of what the voter likes to hear.

It isn't about the all time best selling vocalist or who has the best vocal range, nor does it boil down to what genre a vocalist is from.

These polls on CRF are mainly a way to get to know the members better.....what they like and don't like......their music preferences. I enjoy discovering who has the same music tastes as me :)
