Is Van Halen a hair band?

The girl from Talking Heads is Tina Weynmouth I believe.

The members of Van Halen are David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and that bass player that Eddie just fired. (It might come to me.)

The members of AC/DC are Angus Young, another Young, Bon Scott, his replacement (that too might pop into my head soon).

I can name all the members of the Animals for you though!

VH's bassist was Michael Anthony.

The "other guys" in AC/DC are singer Brian Johnson, Malcolm Young, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams. This is not only the current lineup but also the same lineup that recorded Back in Black.

In truth, there were a few bass players and drummers who passed through AC/DC. Bon Scott wasn't the "original" singer either, though the guy who was in the band before him never recorded a full album with AC/DC.

All I gotta say about The Animals is don't point a gun at me and make me name their members. I'll be in deep trouble.......

I agree. The Kinks version was nice for what it was, back in the day, but VH put boot to ass on that song and gave it life.

Tell me about it. The first time I ever heard the song "Pretty Woman," it was Van Halen's version on Diver Down and I was in love! It was YEARS later I found out it was a cover of a tune by Roy Orbison, and when I finally heard it, I thought, "wow, this really sucks. I can't believe Van Halen was able to take a terrible song like this and make it sound incredibly good."

It was, sadly, obvious that the suits behind Van Halen really didn't much believe in their potential for success by how MANY covers they were asked to record. As I've heard the stories go, they didn't much mind doing it because they enjoyed the songs. However, I really think VH's covers did jump the shark when they recorded that horrific Disco version of "Dancing in the Street."

Say what anyone will about post-Roth VH, at least in the Hager era, we finally got whole albums with all-original music. Covers are fine for starting out and trying to make it big, but I think VH was around for five YEARS when Diver Down came out.

really I've got no clue of the names of AC/DC except Young(didn't even know his first name) and Bon Scott until you just named them. In regards to Van Halen -yeah I know Eddie and the two singers don't have a clue about the others but if you named them I might know them. By the way, by the time I turned 18 I realized I could never be anywhere near the greats so I sold my equipment and just decided to listen.

Talking Heads-David Byrne(I put his name recognition up against any of the people you mentioned), the rest of the bands was Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison. REM-Buck, Stripe, Berry and Mills. Not sure why someone mentioned Joy Division they aren't in the ball park with the others but Ian Curtis and Peter Hook are the key members that would be known.

My point depends what circle you run in. I don't listen to hard rock so I don't have a clue about the members of bands that I could careless about. Same obviously goes for you. If you can't name the members of REM, Talking Heads or insert band.

None of Van Halen, AC/DC, REM, Talking Heads, Joy Division etc is bigger than the other different music for different people or got more people into playing guitar than the other. All those bands have huge influence in their realm of rock.

I've got 30,000 songs to listen to so I don't dwell too much on one band as my influence too many great ones out there. I picked up a guitar in 7th grade I've got no clue what band made me do that? Why because it wasn't one band it was all of them.

bands like Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, Joy Division, R.E.M., the Patti Smith Band, and Blondie were doing much more interesting things than the same old rehashed rock that Van Halen and AC/DC were throwing out there.

''Interesting'' to those who like their music.

Van Halen was popular because people loved em. No one found them as the ''same old rehashed rock''....unless you were not into Van Halen.

Artististic abilities some times come in all kinds of forms..
But your drawn to music just like the hoard you hang out with..
Simplicity tells me.. You want to achieve or lead.. and be admired for your creations..
It dosn't take a producer out of the realm of needing the necessity to be a creator..
It takes a open mind who knows what the masses wants to see or hear..
Take pictures.. Or play a guitar.. It's art any way you look at it..

Yeah, we need more boring bands, like Van Halen, nowadays.


Van Halen isn't rehashed anything. They sound nothing like Led Zeppelin or any other band, really. Like them or not - they had their own style and sound.
