I like ZZ Top quite a bit, up until the Eliminator style, poppier stuff.. there are a few good songs on those albums that I like, but none of it will ever beat the southern, bluesy grit of the earlier albums:D

Billy Gibbons had a band in the late 60's called The Moving Sidewalks. This band produced a chart topping single "99th Floor" and one full length album called "Flash" in 1968. Their sound was psychedelic which is a far cry from the blues-rock that Billy Gibbons became famous for.

"Ten Dollar Man" from the Tejas album is probably my favourite ZZ Top song. Gibbons' lead guitar on that song is absolutely incredible. Can't post it though, the only one I could find on YouTube was the version with the awful '80s reverb added to it. Original versions all the way !!!

That is a great song, and Tejas was my first ZZ Top album. It took me a few listens before it really grabbed me, but I still enjoy playing that album when I'm in the mood for vintage ZZ Top.:grinthumb

ZZ Top. Been a long time since I listened to this group. My brother lent me a copy of his ZZ Top First Album. Listened to it at that time but it kinda slipped out of my mind. Listening to it again and enjoying every second of it. Really has some great classic bluesy hooks.

Billy Gibbons on future goals....

"If we can just keep getting low down, keep getting funky and playing them blues, we'll always have a smile on our faces. I'd like to just keep spankin' the plank."
