^^That's a Reel to Reel tape if I'm not mistaken...probably cost a bit too. One piece of gear I always wanted but never acquired, because getting tape now is almost impossible.

I've got a few Hi-Res downloads of 4 Track recordings, they are good but different from Quadrophonic ones.

^^8 Tracks were all the rage for a couple years, I never owned one myself but have listened to them back in the day. Cassettes were a Magnitude better all round, smaller, quieter and the tape got better and better before it was replaced by CD-R's. I have two cassette decks and still mess around with them. I won't buy an 8 Track player though, just no interest in that format.

I actually still have a Pioneer 8-track recorder that came with my stereo system in the early 70s. The problem I had with 8-tracks was the four channel format because songs would fade out at the end of a channel and fade back in. The fade out, channel change and fade back in took a few seconds and it was very annoying to have a song interrupted.
In one of my music room photos you can see an indoor (AC) 4-track tape deck. These were kind of rare because most of the tape decks back then ('67, '68) were made for cars.

My vinyl collection is just under 2000, about 20% from the 60s and 80% from the 70s. The early to mid 60s are in average condition but the late 60s through the 70s are mostly in new or near new condition and all have protective plastic sleeves.
Since I bought a lot of albums in a short time there are quite a few that have been played once or twice only and I have a few that have not been played at all. These were purchased because I liked the band and was trying to get their entire catalog.
I have about 100 CDs that I bought new. about 150 CDs that were burned from a friend's CD collection and 235 CDs that I burned from LPs.
I never download from the internet.
I have some albums that I don't like probably because at the time I was trying out a new band or they were freebie promos that I got while working at a record store in the 70s.
My LP collection is not growing at all since I have not bought an album in years and I have never sold or traded any albums.
There are a few pictures of my collection on my user page.
Nice collection-I take it you are now finished or will you restart?.Re 8 track.Yes i heard about the fade out but someone said the sound was amazing and the best format ?

I used to think that my collection was finished but after reading so many posts about people buying vinyl I'm getting the urge again. I recently made a master list of my vinyl and found several gaps. I mentioned earlier that my son told me about two or three used record stores in Old Town Pomona so we will check those out soon.
Back in the '60s I started with 4-tracks and then switched to 8-tracks. Craig-Pioneer came out with a tape deck called the 4 + 4 that played both 4 and 8-track so I didn't have to buy a new tape deck. It's hard to comment on the quality of these tapes because they were in the car and we played them loud with all the windows rolled down.

There is one place the cassette failed, where the 8 track didn't... I'll give you a hint... HHHISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

There is now "8 Track Day" much like Record Store Day.

I just sold a Black Sabbath "Master Of Reality" Reel to Reel on Ebay for around $50. We have a load of them at the store.

8-tracks also played continuousy and, being front loading, lent themselves to car players. The tape was wider than cassette tape and only had one 'side'.
