^^Nobody was hurt, and I'm over it now at the time I was upset, most of the albums are irreplaceable now the specialty labels are all gone except MFSL and they have a very limited catalog compared to the glory days.

Your collection is first class, I'll bet you have the same problem as I do, sometimes it takes a while to Choose what CD/album you want to play.:heheh:
This is very sad news LG.People who are collectors are bound to form an emotional attachement.Congrats on your collections and its nice to see that you have given parts of your collection away for free.So you have nearly reached the end of your collection my friend.:)

1-How big is it(cds, vinyl, downloads etc)(Include display pics etc if you want.)

A little over 300 vinyl and just over 1000 CD's

2-Is there stuff you have not played(how much)

No I've played it all over the years.

3-Do you buy your music or do you take the odd frebbie download from blogs.

I buy but will use a rip as a sample then if I like it I buy a copy.

4-How much per month do you think you spend

It depends on how much I'm earning but there's not many weeks go by when I don't pick something up.

5-Is your collection out of control and growing like a monster?

Space is an issue but no I don't think it's too bad.

6-How many chances do you give a purchase(eg 3 goes)

I am a bit choosey as to what I buy and so have usually heard the album or seen a review before hand but those that are iffy will get at least 3 plays and over time some that I didn't like at first grow on me.

7-Do you have stuff that you do not like(eg part of a bands discography)

There are weaker albums and songs even with my all time favourite bands but on the whole I am ok with what I have.

8-Do you sell off parts of your collection from time to time.

Not as yet.

9-Please feel free to say anything else

I've been plodding along slowly collecting since I was about 10 years old and have never looked back, getting into music was definitely one of my better decisions in life.
Quality collection:grinthumb

There is one place the cassette failed, where the 8 track didn't... I'll give you a hint... HHHISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

There is now "8 Track Day" much like Record Store Day.

I just sold a Black Sabbath "Master Of Reality" Reel to Reel on Ebay for around $50. We have a load of them at the store.

Early cassettes were noisy, but as the tape and players improved the Hiss wasn't really noticeable. In cars it was drowned out by the noise of the engine and driving anyway.

I also think the specs on cassettes were much better than 8 Tracks when it came to the bandwith available on the tape.

The Alpine deck I bought for my truck sounded better to me than any 8 Track I'd ever listened to, and the "S" tape that came out was almost as quiet as a CD, but by that time the cassette was finished displaced by recordable CD's which are now replaced by USB's/Portable players.

I like this thread and all the positive vibes I get from all the people who love music, vinyl, CD's and all that goes with it. I will go to the ends of the earth and further to pick up a classic album that I have been after. This year I will be filling all the gaps in my collection with albums by bands that I have not got. I will talk about my collection later today as I am at work now and cannot spend all day on here which I would if I could.

Looking forward to it :grinthumb

I agree there are some very badly recorded albums/cds out there.
Im like you i sort of neglect things and then return to them later
The magic has gone because things can be obtained for free in about 30 seconds now :heheh:

I am sure you are right about the magic. A single 45 had to be saved up for and was a thing to be cherished. Albums were even more so. A single mp3 track can be downloaded in seconds and it does seem to take something away. YouTube etc also allows you to listen to almost anything you want, whenever you want, so you don't have to wait or work to hear songs.

Is it just me, but I used to buy an album and play it to death, so I got to know them extremely well? These days, I'm on to the next thing and I admit that I know new material less well.

^Yes i move on quickly but always come back^
The cream rises to the top so to speak and eventually i become very familiar with it.
Eg-Last year i came across Nektar-A tab in the ocean. Now i knew this was something special from the beginning.I gave it a couple of plays and moved on.Ive recently replayed it about 3 times.Next year will be the same and i will eventually play it to death over about 5yrs.In your youth you probably played it as much in a month as i will play in 5 years:heheh:

1-How big is it(cds, vinyl, downloads etc)(Include display pics etc if you want.)

I have about 200 LP's and about 50 7" singles and about 3500 CD's including about 50 CD singles. I also have some CD box sets of some bands like Lennon and Ramones and The Cult to name a few.

2-Is there stuff you have not played(how much)

I have played everything except about two box sets.

3-Do you buy your music or do you take the odd frebbie download from blogs.

I buy everything except if I have a rip from someone or a download just to make sure I like it then I buy it on CD mainly.

4-How much per month do you think you spend

It depends on what I have left to spend after bills and booking trips tp gigs.

5-Is your collection out of control and growing like a monster

I would say it's not like a monster but my better half would say different, and it's is growing.

6-How many chances do you give a purchase(eg 3 goes)

I usually give them a few chances.

7-Do you have stuff that you do not like(eg part of a bands discography)

Only a couple.

8-Do you sell off parts of your collection from time to time.

Only if I buy a better version or a special edition but not really.

9-Please feel free to say anything else.

I moved to CD because of space but would stay with vinyl if I had a larger house. I love music and have been collecting for a long long time and will continue to buy real copies as long as I am alive. I cannot see the point in downloading 100 albums an hour, no fun in that at all and nothing to show.

Yes I have 2 ipods, but that is so that I can take my music everywhere and listen, I do not like what apple have done to the music industry and all the other prols that have also had a hand in it.:woot:

Between my left and right speakers...
My stuff...

OfficialCDs.jpgBootlegs01.jpg

Left pic...my bookcase of official CD releases.
Right pic...two bookcases of the unofficial stuff. All Zeppelin and related on the right. Other artists on the left...Stones, Beatles, Aerosmith, The Del Rubio Triplets and so on. Each row is two deep.

Oh and that black monolith on top is the obelisk depicted on the "Presence" LP.
