Once you hit about 1,000 CD's/Vinyl albums it becomes difficult to actually listen to them all. Even when I had a carousel CD player it was still time consuming to pick which CD I wanted to play.

Physical storage is another problem even CD's take up a lot of room...but for me I'll put up with that rather than just load a dozen i-pods with crappy lossy files. Also I won't have to repurchase them from i-tunes if something happens, they are insured as well so I'm covered.

Question will become moot in a couple years, there won't be any CD's to buy as everyone goes to digital downloads.

One thing I can't get my head around is the ability today to get so much material in so little time. For me as a collector it has been the searching out, the saving up for, the time put in reading reviews etc., watching the bands live ... all this has kept me rolling for years. If you have too much too soon how can you appreciate it with any true value or worth ?

^^Indeed we both grew up the same way Sox, patiently waiting each year for our favorite bands to release an album, usually a few weeks earlier they would put out the 45 rpm single to promote the record.

The day the new album arrived in the shops was an Event to be enjoyed. Unwrapping the plunder when we got home another part of the fun. Finally playing it was usually the pinnacle of the experience. Once in a while disappointed by a less than stellar album, but the majority of the time I was excited and very happy when I got a new record.

Clicking on a link, waiting 30 seconds then playing one or two songs is not the same.

Something magical has been lost.

2LITTLETIME, agree 100%, every server fails period without exception. I want my music in my hand please and thank you.;)

^Excellent point. Some people on forums are downloading 100s of cds per day.You cant appreciate your music that way.You must do your research and take your time.If you dont truly love it bin it.Keep only what you love.

Also LG sharing the knowledge with like minded mates, talking to the record shop owner getting his advice about older albums. Yeah I need the physical side, the artwork the sleevenotes, the reviews and gig guides in the old mags ,,, the magic as you say.

^^That too, the chatting with other people in the shops, comparing notes like we do in the forum but with the "personal touch".

It's a tradition that is lost now, except in the 2nd hand shops I visit, the pulse is still there among vinyl addicts, even some younger folks who I hope keep the spirit alive and well after I'm gone.;)

^^Skint my young friend...??

I cannot listen to an old album any other way but in sequence like you described, I don't shuffle them ever. I'm "hidebound" and not likely to change anytime soon, and that's fine with me.:gg:

:heheh:
