I definitely tend to prefer to have established classics in my collection, in one respect it gives me a sense of satisfaction to have ticked off some of the 'great albums' and also, in a lot of cases, there's a good reason why they have become established classics - because they contain great music!

I was going to post a reply to this thread but you have already covered everything I was going to say in the above :grinthumb

I completely agree with you (apart from the Beatles comment ;) )

I adore the classic lps my parents used to listen to (dark side of the moon, abbey road, sgt pepper, Zeppelin [IV] etc) as this is the music that led me to discover all the bands I love now.

I'd like to say I discover new music all the time and decide on my own classics. To be honest, I can count on one hand the number of times this has actually happened (and not through lack of trying!)

I always go back to my old favourites, not because they're considered classics, but because they are so bloody good

There's some very good new albums out there. I spend more time nowadays listening to and searching for new stuff.

CD's still but since I have a record player now I do at times buy vinyl. Both formats are factually better in sound quality than MP3.
