^^Might have something to do with your background Nolo. In our society it's a right people have died for over the generations. It's freedom of speech and as long as they gather peacefully don't riot and damage property it's one of the few human rights we still have to express dissatisfaction with how those we pick to run things(Theoretically) when they are betraying you as a society.
If I were you I would watch "Gandhi", it shows more than any other film what protest can achieve and no amount of physical force/violence/intimidation can stop it once it gets to a certain point.
