Re: Uriah Heep

It's the track "Blind Eye" that gets me but the whole album is ace, a really strong contender for their best IMO MP.

Re: Uriah Heep

Well when I was a kid it was the last half of the Magician's Birthday (after the guitar solo) that got me. We had my sister's speakers set up one on either side of the room...and the evil singing with the panning effects.

 :heheh:

Re: Uriah Heep

This song always freaked me out...
Uriah Heep – ''Come Away Melinda'' – listen at Last.fm music.gif

Daddy, Daddy, come and look! See what I have found!
a little ways away from here, while digging in the ground.
Come away Melinda.
Come in and close the door.
It's nothing, just a picture book
they had befor the war.

Daddy, daddy, come and see! Daddy come and look!
Why there's four or five little Melinda girls inside my picture book.
Come away Melinda.
Come in and close the door.
There were lots of little girls like you
before they had the war.

Oh Daddy, Daddy, come and see! Daddy hurry do!
Why there's someone in a pretty dress, she's all grown up like you.
Won't you tell me why?
Come away Melinda.
Come in and close the door.
That someone is your mommy
you had before the war.

Daddy, Daddy, tell me if you can.
Why can't things be the way they were before the war began?
Come away Melinda.
Come in and close the door.
The answer lies in yesterday
before they had the war

Hey hey! Here's a band not many are familiar with! My personal favorite song of theirs is "Stealin' ". The fast-paced beat to it just got me hooked the first time I heard it

Re: Uriah Heep

I love early Uriah Heep. Their first 5 or so w/ Gary Thain and David Byron
are all classics IMO especially Uriah Heep Live which is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded if not THE best.

After the departure of Byron they took on a pop rock edge that is not my thing and I have not followed many of their albums in the later category. I have heard some later era stuff that I think is OK but nothing that comes near any of the classic Byron era material.

In the words of George Harrison " All things must pass "

Re: Uriah Heep

Never in a million years did I think I'd be bumping a Uriah Heep thread but after seeing a top ten thread for this band and thinking "I couldn't even do a top 1 for these guys!" I decided to do a little research. :heheh: From my experience I didn't hear anything that really made me think they sounded a hell of a lot different from what I've heard but there were a couple standout solid tracks. Actually being familiar sounding, to their credit it was a blend of other familiar bands so I'm not saying they were copycats! :D

Anyway, I dug the Gypsy song which was listed here the most. What a cool intro and the vocals were cool and dramatic! One of those shamelessly epic tracks! A song I thought was pretty decent that I haven't seen pop up in here was:
