I was actually more into Mud and Gary Glitter as an 8 year old (well, at least until I discovered like 30 years later that all along GG had been a **********)

I always thought that the great Queen stole from Sweet's falsetto vocal thing pretty blatantly actually, 'Killer Queen' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' owes a hell of a lot to 'Wig Wam Bam' - check it out and tell me I'm wrong!!

You must not be from the states, in order to have mentioned Mud so casually! They were such a fun band. "Tiger Feet" is a real classic. Remember the group Hello? Also similar, and very much fun to listen to. Also, I can't stomach Gary Glitter's version of "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh, Yeah)!" after learning of his crimes. The terrible thoughts begin flowing and I always turn back to Joan Jett.
