1945 Folk musician John McEuen (of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) is born in Oakland, California.

1957 Doug Johnson (keyboardist for Loverboy) is born in New Westminster, British Columbia.

1993 Michael Clarke (drummer for The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers) dies of liver failure at age 47 after decades of alcohol abuse.

1947, Born on this day, Peter Criss, drummer from American hard rock band KISS. They scored the 1974 US No.5 single 'On And On', their 1976 US No 11 album Rock and Roll Over spent 26 weeks on the chart and they had the 1987 UK No.4 single 'Crazy Crazy Nights'. Criss established the "Catman" character for his Kiss persona.

1948, Born on this day, Alan Parsons, British studio audio engineer, musician, and record producer. He was involved with the production of The Beatles' Abbey Road and Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of The Moon for which Pink Floyd credit him as an important contributor. Parsons' own group, The Alan Parsons Project released several albums.

1966, Born on this day, Chris Robinson, American musician. He was the singer with The Black Crowes (the brother of its guitarist Rich Robinson). The Black Crowes who had the 1991 hit single 'Hard To Handle' and the 1992 US No.1 & UK No.2 album The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion. He is was a member of New Earth Mud.

1975 Joe Walsh officially replaces Bernie Leadon in The Eagles, and would take the band from their Rock and Roll cowboy sound to harder Rock. Walsh first came to prominence with The James Gang before forming Barnstorm.

1944 Bobby Colomby (drummer for Blood, Sweat & Tears) is born in New York.

1959 Jackie Fox is born Jacqueline Fuchs in California. She gives up a promising career in mathematics when she joins The Runaways as bass player at the age of 15, rather than taking early entry into UCLA. After leaving the band she returns to her studies, graduating from UCLA and then Harvard - where she is a classmate of Barack Obama - and goes on to work as an entertainment lawyer.

1992, American blues singer and guitarist, Albert King died from a heart attack in Memphis, Tennessee. He recorded dozens of influential songs, such as 'Crosscut Saw' and 'As The Years Go Passing By', and the 1967 album, 'Born Under a Bad Sign.'
