Your cool Uncle
Geoff Emerick's memoir as their main recording engineer paints a slightly less than flattering picture of George as a guitarist. He maintains that George was frequently nervous when called on to solo, and that it often took many takes to get it right.
In George's defense, many people have painted Emerick as being squarely in Paul's corner when it came to any Beatle controversies, so it's difficult to say what the objective truth is or whether Emerick had any kind of axe to grind in writing his book (he also claimed Ringo hated drum solos and had to be forced to do the solo near the end of side 2 of Abbey Road). Even so, it's a fun, fun read and never fails to be interesting.
