^^it's funny I have a much different set of expectations for HT. I don't think I am nearly as demanding as straight audio music

I used the Audyssey on my Onkyo and what I found with all the speakers matching on the 7.1 system.. it did a good job.

throw a wrinkle in there, like oh the M40's and IMO it struggled to do what it promised and I just fell back to adjusting it manually by ear.. I liked the results far more. the 40's mixed in with the satellites and it seemed to get seriously confused.

^^I'm no fanatic either when it comes to my HT Jim, I've got a hodge-podge of different speakers, but I want a better crisper dialog from my center channel. The Marantz has so many great features I'm very happy with it.

After all the Mirage is 15 years old now, and it was entry level when I bought it so a new cc would be the most important upgrade, well the SVS subwoofer is also really good it shakes the neighbour's house too.:D

^15 years is a long time Bruce. So storage time for it? Keep us apprised of your choice. I had a suite of Polk LSI's that I had for four years until I switched over to Mirage's. I would have kept them if not for the really good deal for the OMD-15s I came across. After that, I had to get the complementary models from the line to complete them. As far as tenure, that goes to my Velodyne subs that's been with me for 11 years.

My folks are still using the JBL Northridge ELs and all are still going strong. Speakers if not abused or over-driven constantly last a long time.

^^Yeah there is no point in even trying to sell it, except maybe part it out. If Mirage was still in business getting new drivers wouldn't be hard but that's not an option.

I'll use my KEF cc next and see what I think of it. I bought it 8 years ago, it's nice and the drivers are good, no foam anywhere.:)

Darkness and tops off...

You're fortunate your set-up is in a basement. Sunlight can be a factor in a speaker's life. My left surround gets lit from light that seep out of the blinds. I have to hang a hat on it.

BTW, anyone here listen to their speakers with the grilles off? I do but I have to on a weekly basis use one of those cold air cans to gently blow the dust off the drivers. The stats have to be vacuumed. When I was doing some research, I read Paradigms' grills actually enhance the sonics so they recommend leaving them on.

^^I take mine off once in a while, my Paradigm "Titans" the grilles don't come off you have to take the back off to get at the drivers/crossover. The ADP's rear channels the grilles come off but I leave them on usually.

Didn't think of doing that, guess I should use a blast of compressed air once in a while to keep the dust down.

Hey I just dusted down my Rega Planar 2 from the loft. A revelation and I found a remarkable second hand record store in Birmingham England that has been there for 50 years (Diskery). Some great slabs of vinyl for not much money at all and a real return to feeling connected to the music. I did an A-B test between a 320kbps version of Marianne Faithfull's Broken English (played from Macbook via Dragonfly Audioquest DAC) and a 180gram vinyl addition...virtually no difference and it called into question the whole vinyl is warmer argument. However, the real difference was in the re-connection to removing the LP from the sleeve and placing the tonearm.

Sometimes I am beginning to think if my Parasound DAC isn't cutting it anymore. Thus the disparity between CD and vinyl.
