The Cars‘ multi-platinum first decade is being boxed up into a freshly remastered retrospective set, alongside a new single-disc, career-spanning compilation.

The six-disc box, titled The Elektra Years 1978-1987, is scheduled to arrive March 11, and features digital remastering supervised by frontman Ric Ocasek. Each of the six albums the group released for Elektra Records during the titular timespan are collected in replica sleeves featuring the original artwork — a process overseen by drummer David Robinson, who designed the band’s album covers.

Bringing together all 60 tracks from the band’s early discography, The Elektra Years includes The Cars (1978), Candy-O (1979), Panorama (1980), Shake It Up (1981), Heartbeat City, (1984) and Door to Door (1987). The sole entry not represented is the Cars’ 2011 reunion effort, Move Like This. The CD version of The Elektra Years is available for pre-order now, with a limited edition vinyl version — featuring a different colored disc for each LP — scheduled to arrive June 7.

Arriving May 6 is the new single-disc hits compilation Moving in Stereo: The Best of the Cars, which offers a career-spanning, band-curated 18-track survey of the group’s recording career and also includes three rare recordings: a single mix for “I’m Not the One,” a live version of “Everything You Say” and a new mix from producer Philippe Zdar of the Move Like This track “Sad Song.” Moving in Stereo is available for pre-order on CD, and will also be available as a two-LP set on 180-gram vinyl. Check out the complete track listing below.

I may have to get the collection. I sold a big pile of CD years ago and the Cars are one band where a greatest hits CD doesn't cut it.

Unfortunately, Tonight She Comes is only on various GH albums.
