Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Lou Reed, Green Day and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band have all been elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2015.

Beatles legend Ringo Starr will also be honored as the recipient of the hall’s “Award for Musical Excellence.” Starr was, of course, already inducted to the hall as a member of the Fab Four back in 1988. His bandmates have each been previously inducted for their solo careers — John Lennon in 1994, Paul McCartney in 1999, and George Harrison in 2004.

Reed, who passed away last year, is also a two-time honoree, having joined the Hall of Fame back in 1996 as a member of the Velvet Underground. Vaughan, who died in 1990, was the runaway winner of this year’s “fan’s ballot” voting, as 18 million music lovers insisted the time for him to join the Hall of Fame had arrived.

We’ll have much more on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2015 throughout the day — including reactions from the winners. The induction ceremony will be held at the Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, April 18.

Still no Deep Purple.

My congratulations go out to both Bill Withers, then Ringo Starr, his induction now opens the door for Phil Collins solo, though I'd wish/hope Electric Light Orchestra with Jeff Lynne would get in before him, also sad about The Spinners and WAR THE BAND not getting their respective nods, no Casey Kasem either!

I never 'got' Lou Reed.

Green Day? Has anyone cleared this with Gene Simmons?

I'm glad I read this. I heard about Ringo on the news and I thought, "What? He's not in the Hall Of Fame?" ABC World News has turned into "news light," and they leave out a lot of information.

Is the "Award For Musical Excellence" the same as being inducted? It doesn't sound like it to me. It's like "Well, we've got to give Ringo something since the other three have been inducted as solo artists". It's like the trophies that they give kids in Little League "just for participating".

I'm not sure now. I heard it being discussed on the news again, and it sounds like Ringo was never inducted. :uh: How could they pass him over for so long?
