Asia have announced that their former guitarist, and current Yes member, Steve Howe will return to the band to take part in a series of tribute shows to late frontman John Wetton. Foreigner and John Parr will also be on the bill.
Wetton lost his battle against cancer in January at the age of 67, putting the prog supergroup’s future in question. However, guitarist Sam Coulson, drummer Carl Palmer and keyboardist Geoff Downes had already hired Billy Sherwood to front them during their upcoming U.S. tour with Journey.
Now they’ve announced that Sherwood will appear alongside Howe during four U.K. concerts in November, with Palmer replaced by Dylan Howe (due to previous commitments by the drummer).
“A tribute to John Wetton is being planned, end November, four dates including the Royal Albert Hall, with members of Asia as special guests of Foreigner. John Parr will be opening the show,” Asia posted on their Facebook page. “Signed up so far are Geoff Downes and Steve Howe.”
“My heart breaks, understanding the circumstances,” Sherwood said of replacing Wetton. “I shall work very hard to maintain the integrity and musical standards expected.” You can see the list of dates for the tribute shows below.
