Dia Frampton-The Broken Ones
reviews_D_Frampton_RED_220.jpg

I know they've hurt you bad,
Why hide the scars you have.
Baby let me straighten out your broken bones,
All you faults to me make you more beautiful.

I can't help it,
I love the broken one,
The ones who,
Need the most patching up.
The ones who've,
Never been loved,
Never been loved,
Never been loved enough
Maybe I see a part of me in them.
The missing piece always trying to fit in.
The shattered heart,
Hungry for a home.
No your not alone,
I love the broken ones.

You don't have to drive,
With your headlights off.
It's a pocketknife,
Not a gift from god.
Don't you learn of love from the love they kept.
I will be your anchor slowly,
Step by step.
I can't help it,
I love the broken one,
The ones who,
Need the most patching up.
The ones who've,
Never been loved,
Never been loved,
Never been loved enough
Maybe I see a part of me in them.
The missing piece always trying to fit in.
The shattered heart,
Hungry for a home.
No your not alone,
I love the broken ones.

Maybe we can rip off the bandage.
Maybe you will see it for what it is.
Maybe we can burn this building,
Holding you in.

I can't help it,
I love the broken one,
The ones who,
Need the most patching up.
The ones who've,
Never been loved,
Never been loved,
Never been loved enough.
Maybe I see a part of me in them.
The missing piece always trying to pit in.
The shattered heart,
Hungry for a home.
No your not alone,
I love the broken ones.
I love the broken ones.
I love the broken ones.
I love the broken ones.

I was both shocked and pleased to recognize and see Dia on "The Voice". I was already a fan of her and owned both albums by her and her sister Meg aptly titled Meg and Dia. I thought it was awesome that she did so well on the show. On top of being talented she's a ****ing hotty. :D Meg and Dia were a harder edged rock pop than what Dia does with her solo act but Dia stills keeps a great songwriting talent beneath the pop. Like Foster The People's single there is surprisingly serious and darker matters behind the cotton candy pop. This isn't one of the deeper songs in content but it's a perfect pop song that was perfect as a single. The melody and structure of the song is infectious and while it's not an anthem like the Daughtry song listed it still elevates me the same way. Great songwriting that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. So cute like Dia herself. I want to pinch it's cheeks!

Leona Lewis-Iris

I LOVE a Leona Lewis cover. There's a formula too it but it's an AWESOME formula. Take an already great song (seriously she picks the best songs), sing it amazingly with great emotion, add a string section and build it too epic proportions. Ever since Run I've wanted to hear her cover anything. This year she had a three song EP of covers out picking songs that were darker and sadder because of her own real life issues. I could have plastered all three songs from it on here but I decided not too. Instread I picked my favorite. I love this better than Hurt and Colorblind because it transformed a decent song into something magically. Johnny Rzenick is talented no doubt but a very one note flat singer. Leona with her pipes which are subdued enough to avoid Diva territory and keep it authentic is able to tell the story with more depth. I love the arrangement of this, I love the voice, I LOVE this!

....And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead-Ebb Away
trailofdead300.jpg

When it's rising there is no light
But when it's falling
there's no darkness

(Tunu?) has threaded the old description
the old affliction
It does not exist

I fall now, formless
It's image nothing
It's name is silence

Follow now, It has no face
Now comes mystery
home secrecy

Ebb away
Into Light
Ebb away

When it's rising there is no light
But when it's falling
in this darkness

Her name is silence
she has no place, she no face
in the darkness

When it's rising there is no light
We are formless

Ebb away
Ebb away into night
Ebb Away

This track placed lower on the list because it's not a song album by any means and it's hard to separate one track from another. In fact rthe special edition has a seperate disc where the album was separated into two separate tracks and recorded that way. Plus, Trail of Dead is known for it's epic, grandiose, punk and hard rock sound with great production but they did this on an independent so the production isn't as perfect and they suffer a bit. Nonetheless I enjoyed the album and it's actually a very ambitious album showing there's still fuel in the tank. I picked this track just because I love how it stands apart and has this very transient, relaxing vibe to it just like the ebbs and flow of the tides. The album had a lot of that and this represents it well. It like Junior Dad provides a very zen like vibe which fits the part of the bands aura which usually has spiritual and ancient God references. They are kind of ambiguous with that sort of material just like Tori Amos and incorporate a little bit of everything into their mythos. Each album has an epic theme. There's a whole booklet telling the complex story and origins included here. Anyways, this short track takes a break before the epic "Fairlight Pendant" instrumental but I enjoyed the transient calm before the storm. :grinthumb

2Cellos-Welcome To The Jungle

This was one of my favorite discoveries next to The Civil Wars. When I found this I was blown away that it was not just a cool cover and a cool idea but it wasn't just a novelty track. The reason that it wasn't is that these guys meant business and they shredded through that shit like rock stars and kept the balls to the wall vibe of the original. Plus, this cover got me the most out of my zone getting me to buy what is still a classical album regardless of the source material. It also got me into an album without vocals and still kept attention. When I watch this video I still get that "Holy Shit' vibe I had the first time. Maybe Axl should do a project with these guys! They can teach him how to rock again!

Architecture In Helsinki-Denial Style

Ooh, oh

And as I rose from the rubble
The way you pointed at me
I wasn't looking for trouble
Hey, hey, I like what I see

Say if my eyes are mistaken
Look at the long lost land
If I could be any further
I might be stealing your hand

I'm in denial and you're no fun
I'm in denial and you're no fun
I'm in denial and you're no fun

I'm in denial and we are done
Batting the style of the lonely one
Takin' the hit for your chosen son
Uh, uh, son, uh, uh, son, uh, uh

Fulfill the heats of another
Even though we were wrong
I can't compete with your lover
While you've ruled all along

I'm in denial and you're no fun
I'm in denial and you're no fun
I'm in denial and you're no fun

I'm in denial and we are done
Batting the style of the lonely one
Takin' the hit for your chosen son
Uh, uh, son, uh, uh, son, uh, uh

Make it happen, make it happen
Make it happen, let it happen
Let it happen, make it happen

Let it happen, make it happen
Make it happen, let it happen
Let it happen, make it happen

I'm in denial and you're no fun
I'm in denial and you're no fun
I'm in denial and you're no fun

I'm in denial and we are done
Batting the style of the lonely one
Takin' the hit for your chosen son
Uh, uh, son, uh, uh, son, uh, uh

This was a fun pop group introduced to me by member Salmacis and they are as about pure and shamelessly pop as it gets. It wasa good recommendation and this was my favorite track from it. This is like if Ray Parker Jr. got replaced by Prince to write the Ghostbusters theme. This track is sugary funk at it's best. I love the electronic beats and the effects at the 2 minute mark are awesome. This group and track defines fun!

Bonus Countdown: Top 10 Albums That I Missed This Year

This is the list of albums that somehow I neglected and couldn't in all fairness rate them on the list. If I really wanted to nitpick there are four or five songs on my top 55 that are from albums that aren't out yet or haven't purchased to compare other songs against but those songs I REALLY liked and the singles off these top 5 albums were good but not good enough to make the exception. I guessing that each album has far better songs than the single. I will post the lead single to represent each album. :)

Kelly Clarkson-Stronger

I own every other Kelly Clarkson album and they all rate well with My December being great. I wish she would go back to that more settled, laid back style. This album has her typical big hooky female empowerment anthem as a single. It's good but didn't really get me in a rush to buy the album. I will buy and I'm sure as always I will find some gems on it. It's nice to see a legit talented artist with staying power from the Idol cannon though.

Mat Kearney-Young Love
cover_10485.jpg

I LOVED the first Mat Kearney album. His fusion of folk and hip-hop, subtle Christian themes and soothing ballads made for a unique and amazing album. Unfortunately his followup was a major bore from when I listened to it and I never bought it. I had kind of given up on Mat and the single to this didn't help. It sounded like a typical pop song. I did make myself listen to the album and I liked what I heard. There was a lot of good tracks on it and I put this album on my to buy list. I never got to it so I couldn't rate it but from what i heard it was a return to form.

Now that the covers countdown is over I may have to tune your thread out Soots. Just kidding, but you already know how I feel about Leona Lewis and that Goo Goo Dolls cover. :yuk:

You will have to recommend some more covers for me I thoroughly enjoyed most of the ones on your list. :grinthumb
