Lisa Hannigan-A Sail

It's long gone that I carry on from December
It is no matter, if you remember
Mold, paper, bad wine, and too much bedside whiskey
I will roll my heart up
I will roll my heart up in my sleeve

Now it is your line
I know that I wrote it
And if you tell a lie
Well, no one will notice
And of you and I
Well, I was the loudest
While you stayed quiet
We were surrounded

It's long gone that I carry on from the winter
I asked you upstairs
Until we tangled in my hair
You were never one for chronic chattering
Your heart beat pale
While I flew my colors
I flew my colors like a sail

Now it is your line
I know that I wrote it
And if you tell a lie
Well, no one will notice
And of you and I
Well, I was the loudest
While you stayed quiet
We were surrounded

I will roll my heart up
I will roll my heart up
I will roll my heart up
I will roll my heart up

This was my most disappointing album of the year. It's because I have Lisa on a pedestal so high and I just don't think she writes songs that match her potential. She was AMAZING with Damien and she had the voice of an angle. She still does and that redeems her. I mean I LOVE her voice. I love her soulfulness. That's why I can't figure out why her solo efforts are more flat. This song shows potential though as it has a really infectious groove and has a Fiona Apple like broodiness that sounds awesome with Lisa's wispier vocals. It's an enchanting pop song and gives me hope for Lisas future when she finds her groove better.

Lil' Wayne-The Carter 4
lil-wayne-anne-lyrics.jpg

I've really been into Lil' Wayne since the Rebirth album. Lil' Wayne made an amazing pop, rock, Hip-Hop fusion. I'm obsessed with that one. I found some interesting stuff when I bought the "I Am Not A Human" album. When Lil' Wayne does straight up Hip-Hop with no experimentation though I'm not a huge fan. That usually is what happens with the Carter series of albums. I'm not as much into what he says as how he says it and his fun attitude and original swaggering tongue in cheek cockiness. This one sounds like it had a lot of potential as the lead single went full R&B ballad and I dug it. Rebirth 2 is rumored to be made but until then I could see getting this one.

Angels and Airwaves-Love Parts 2
ANGELS-AIRWAVES-%25E2%2580%2593-LOVE-PART-II.jpg

This was a no brainer as in I think Love Part 1 was their best work and had this great epic feel. I have the free album download from the first and wanted to get them both on disc when it came out. The reason I didn't comes down to bad marketing. They released an edition that came with both albums with the movie they made to go with the album. Now who wouldn't want that!!!! But they really shipped a shitty amount out and most stores didn't even have it. Now it's a pain and expensive to get. So yeah, that was a shitty way of screwing fans.

No Sooty countdown would be complete without some Lisa Hannigan. :grinthumb

And by "albums I missed this year" you mean albums you neglected to pick up? Why would you want Lil Wayne? :omg:

I'm not only a pop princess but the Alaskan Rock Goddess smartass. :grinthumb

Oh, I forgot to tell you I got a little taste of Angels and Airwaves the other day! I had no idea Tom DeLonge was involved with it so I NEED to check them out more!

Blink fans should really be happy that both that AND Blink themselves came out with albums this year! :grinthumb

3 Doors Down-Round and Round
3doorsdowntimeofmylife.jpg

There's one who takes it all, and there's one who takes the fall,
One who never ends, and there's one who stands again,
There's one who lives in pain, and there's one who has no shame,
One to tell the lies, and one to make the alibis.

Round and round and round and round we go,
Where we're gonna stop nobody knows.

There's one who makes the rules, and there's one to plays the fool,
One with jealous hands, and there's one to be the friend,
There's one who wins the fight, and there's one who sleeps at night,
There's one who will stand tall, but we will all fall.

Round and round and round and round we go,
Where we're gonna stop nobody knows.
Something's wrong, I feel it in my soul,
Round and round and round and round we go.

Just to find a way, just to find a way out,
To find a way, just to find a way out,
To find a way, just to find a way out for me...
Just to find a way, just to find a way out,
To find a way, just to find a way out,
To find a way, just to find a way out for me...

Round and round and round and round we go,
(To find a way, just to find a way...)
Where we're gonna stop nobody knows.
(Just to find a way, just to find a way...)
Something's wrong, I feel it in my soul,
(To find a way, just to find a way...)
Round and round and round and round we go,
(To find a way, just to find a way out for me...)

You know this is a good year when I'm impressed with a 3 Doors Down. There singles are usually good as formulaic as they are butthe albums tend to be grinding and dull filler as a whole. In fact since the debut they lost whatever energy and edge they had in return for Matchbox 20 light fluff. This album seems to crank it up, put the same energy into every song as if they were all singles and just has an energy that makes you forget that these guys committed the same crimes as Nickelback continually. On this one the range from hard rock to ballads to even a dip into country makes for a better rounded trip. Kudos! :grinthumb It's far more forgivable since Brad Arnold is 1,000 times the singer Chad Kroeger is. In fact, it's the layers of his vocal that have made me at least a moderate listener from album one. This track is not the most complex melody on the album but it shows their heavier side comparable to the Kryptonite days and really gets my blood pumping whenever I hear it!

Steel Panther-Balls Out
Steel-Panther-Balls-Out.jpg

I remember finding these guys as Metal School putting on some truly hilarious 80's metal tributes with famous celebs getting in on the fun. When I found they became Steel Panther I was even more entertained as now they were there own band and made a great raunchy satire of the genre they love. The thing is they were a legitimately good band so it worked. I think the one album was fine and maybe they are more of a novelty act but I'd be curious to have another run with this band.

Mr. Big-What If?
mrbigwhatifdigipack300p.jpg

Out of all the metal bands during my high school days these guys were at the very top. I bought both Lean Into it and Bump Ahead and loved both albums. When my friend and I were talking about 2011 albums this came up and I was saying that surprisingly I wasn't the guitar afficionado and really didn't like the drawn out solos, etc. at that time. I said for some reason it always stood out that I liked the guitar work in Mr. Big stating specifically that one of my favorite parts to "Just Take My Heart" was the really cool intro. He said that's because Paul Gilbert took music theory and knew where to place things in music so that they fit into the song and weren't just noodling and padding. Anyway, I know I wasn't AS excited as the older rockers hereabout the new album but I was interested and still want to grab this one. :grinthumb

My mom went to see Steel Panther for her boyfriend's birthday two days ago and apparently there were boobs and genitals all over the place. Had I warned her about that in advance it wouldn't have been nearly as funny for me. :heheh:

:oyea:

Had she even heard a note of it prior. I mean she really didn't think a band that sings songs like "Asian Hooker" and "It Ain't Gonna Suck Itself" was going to resemble a Sugarland concert, did she?

I have to ask Cosmic, what did you think of that Charles Bradley song? That one wasn't a match song wise for us but another artist that we both like does have a song match as you'll see! :grinthumb
