I had questioned earlier whether or not it was critical praise or fan praise that was taken into account when responding but it was never really specified. I think fan praise has more influence on the frequency of a song being overplayed or not, so you're right on that R. Evans.

I'll say it again, we have Numerous Overplayed threads in here, and there is a difference between that and Overrated at least to me, but I'm not getting bogged down about it.

Split hairs if you like at least it will keep you out of trouble.;)

Radio stations play what they think is "safe" or "recognized" songs on their playlist cutting out others from an artist's repertoire. They believe it is WHAT the public wants to hear. Savvier listeners with diverse musical tastes and knowledge tend to disagree or get put off. I don't mind or care BUT it deludes other generations into thinking if what is aired is all that is. They hear others blather on that "Stairway To Satisfaction Alabama" is overrated then it feeds into that mindset. Lemmings...

Oh...and play more Meatloaf!

All I've really seen in here are challenges to the people who already tried to address the topic at hand, not any valid lists or song mentions. Perhaps we should all get back on topic instead of dissecting? It just takes the fun out of it in my opinion. :uh:

That reminds me, 'Bat out of Hell' (the song, not the album) belongs in my Academy of the OverRated. Though I do rate Jim Steinman as a songwriter, but there was a time where even a slightly dribbly fart from Mr Meat's derrière would be heralded as a mini-symphonic masterpiece, no questions asked.
