So after waiting around, I finally got the remastered version of Dark Side of the Moon. It's quite delightful, very much so.

So which album should I get next, Meddle or Animals?

^^Have you got a copy of Wish You Were Here yet Shackles?

I prefer Meddle to Animals but if Riff were here he'd recommend Animals over Meddle. Get both.:D

Of course I do! It's my favorite album so far. I also have Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and The Division Bell.

Hopefully someone can hook me up with the 2011 remaster of Animals for a good price since it goes for over $20 on eBay. I'm not willing to spend that much on a 40 minute album.

If your favourite so far is Wish You Were Here or Dark Side Of The Moon, I'd recommend going for Meddle first - it's mostly led by the music rather than the lyrics, and features reasonably balanced contributions from the band members, whereas Animals is closer to The Wall in that it's predominantly a Roger Waters album where the lyrics are of greater importance.

Although I consider DSOTM and WYWH to be my two favourite Floyd albums (I struggle to choose between them though), Meddle is another favourite of mine, with Echoes, One Of These Days and Fearless all ranking very highly on my personal list of the best Pink Floyd songs.

One thing that might be useful as a decider between which to get would be your level of appreciation of Pink Floyd's longer songs - Meddle has the side-long composition Echoes, but side one contains five shorter songs, whereas Animals is three long songs with the two halves of shorter acoustic song bookending the album.

I'd rather get the first pressed CD of Animals myself, or even better a vinyl copy.:D But good luck hope you do find a copy you like at a fair price Shackles.

I've listened to Echoes and One of These Days in the past and I thought they were great. And is Animals really just that? I guess it can wait. Any other album I should buy soon?

And Grendel, I've read that the old pressings of Animals sound thin. I should put this out there, I'm a bit of a quality whore!

I'd say that if you really like Echoes and One Of These Days, you should definitely get Meddle.

Although most of Animals only really has three songs, they are all lengthy and are conceptually tied together.
The Animals tracklisting is:
1) Pigs On The Wing (Part I) - just under 90 seconds long
2) Dogs - 17 minutes long, takes up nearly the whole of side one of the vinyl
3) Pigs (3 Different Ones) - another long song, but shorter than Dogs at 10 minutes
4) Sheep - similar length to the previous song
5) Pigs On The Wing (Part I) - again, just under 90 seconds long

In terms of other Pink Floyd albums, if you get Meddle and Animals on top of the 'big three' then you've got all of the major Waters and Gilmour albums. the most obvious album to listen to next would probably be The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, although as the only true Syd Barrett Pink Floyd album it's quite a bit different from the 1970s albums - if you have a strong preference for the later sound over their psychedelic era, and if you like Meddle, then maybe go for Atom Heart Mother instead (IMO that's the first album where the classic progressive Pink Floyd sound is heard).

Thanks for posting that song, Aktivator - I'd not heard that one before, and I rather like the sound of it. I am alone I thinking it sounds a bit like a Joe Walsh song?
