We must be on the same wavelength Bob D., I played my old vinyl edition of the Wall last night too...from start to finish the only way to listen to it properly.
Time to dust this one off...
Watched a little of "60 Minutes" last night, only because I saw the promo about a piece with Roger Waters.
He is on tour with "The Wall" right now and it's a smashing success. I was totally impressed with the amount of effort Roger has poured into this theatrical/concert tour. He spent 3+ years working out everything and assembling the greatest presentation of any "Concept" album in the history of rock music. The stage is amazing, over 140 meters wide, can't remember how many HD panels/projectors he is using but it's mind boggling.
The Wall is setting new attendance records in South America and Roger was saying he thinks the theme of his Magnum Opus is timeless and appeals to everyone because it's a universal message. For a guy 68 years old he is in great shape and seems happy with life, anyone that knows Roger realizes he's kind of an odd guy, very private and moody.
Only fly in the ointment was his comment about Pink Floyd...he made it seem like he walked away on his own terms, and forgot to mention he tried with all his might to stop the remaining members from touring/using the name Pink Floyd. Apparently the "Wall" is still up when Croft asked about playing with Nick and David again, Roger still seems to feel he is past all that now and reiterated he left Pink Floyd for a reason,,,but didn't go into details.
All in all a very good 10 minute capsule of where Roger is now, both musically and on a more personal level.
If anyone has a chance to see this tour of "The Wall"...GO!!

I wall came through Cleveland sometime in the last year (I don't remember when exactly) but it sold out before I could get a ticket.

I also got the impression that Roger is "chuffed" that he is selling out so many large stadiums on this tour, his comments about playing to 1500 people in a 4,000 seat venue in Cincinnati and then the next night Pink Floyd filled Bengal Stadium with over 60,000 being a very humbling experience. Now I'm sure he feels very good about himself.
When he played here years ago after releasing his last solo album he put on a very good show and about 15,000 people were in the coliseum which is about full capacity.

Not to be contrary, but the Wall tour that I am familiar w/ from Roger had some strange people involved that I didn't see as befitting of the music.... Cindy Lauper etc.. seemed like Roger was just going for the current big names in the radio music world to draw a crowd at the time. That turned me off to the idea TBH.
^^That was back in the late 80's Wolf,,,I rather enjoyed that spectacle and thought the people involved did a good job.
This time round however there is no comparison, he has created something special and even has 6 or more people replacing Gilmour and playing every note Exactly as it's recorded on the album. I give him full marks for pulling this off.

Sounds more enticing to me this time around then. I'd like to see a more true to Floyd version of The Wall as I was very disappointed by the late 80's affair

The Wall in Berlin in 1990 was important because it coincided with the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Unfortunately the rag tag band of performers and singers(Sinead O' Connor, Bryan Adams, Cyndi Lauper????????????) Rog got to play with him was particularly unspectacular. I cringe to watch it today.
This time around it was absolutely amazing. Like going to a high powered Broadway show. Only 10 times bigger. And the cool thing about it is that the "cheap seats" are actually better that the expensive ones because you get to see the whole spectacle unfold. The closer you are the more you miss.

^^Exactly Architect,,,it was more than just a "concert"...it had far reaching cultural implications for all of us. I watched it being broadcast live that night and felt part of something special.
Was it as good as if the original band was playing...probably not but I had it on VHS for ages and watched it every once in a while. Has to be one of the largest crowds to ever witness a rock concert no matter what else.
