I thought the album dragged on a bit in some songs, The Day That Never Comes and Unforgiven III are extremely forgettable, the 2 worst ballads Metallica have done for mine. I also didn't think much of Suicide and Redemption, again an extremely long and repetitive instrumental. Then theres the loudness war, Magnetics mastering was way off. Otherwise a solid album.

Absolutely agree with you on Suicide & Redemption. Probably one of my least favorite instrumentals i've ever heard. There are probably 2 more songs that I don't like on the album, mostly because I feel like they were forced. It's these two:

Idk, I don't really like the delivery of Hetfield's vocals in either of those songs.

Otherwise, I don't really mind the rest of the album. It flows pretty well for me, and I enjoy it, except for those two or three songs that were mentioned.

I like the riffs in those songs, the drumming of Lars I don't particularly like, it seems like he just hasn't much variety lol
My favourite songs are Broken Beat & Scarred, That Was Just Your Life, The Judas Kiss.

I didn't have a problem with Death Magnetic at all. Lars just doesn't seem all that into it anymore...not like when he was younger but it was still a smooth listen for me and what I felt was a return to form, the best that it could be anyway.

I hope LuLu isn't going to be a set back. That was my only concern. Death Magnetic for me, and maybe for other also, was like a bridge IMO, that they were using to cross back over.

Lars drumming wasn't all that special in even the classic era, it was just a case of it blending well with the great riffs James and Kirk came up with. Lars writes songs so I can say he is a pretty decent song writer.

I love Broken Beat & Scarred. One of my favorites off the album next to End of the Line.

Is that the longest outro in the history of the universe... thought it would never end, kind of puts you into a trance - maybe there are subliminal suggestions embedded in there..."You will love this album, you will love this album..." Guess they didn't work very well.
Seriously, I don't mind the music but the voice is still not doing it for me, I've heard better sounds coming from a broken loo (no pun intended).

As bad as I thought Metallica were on that album, they were the best part of the album, their major problem was repetitive riffing. That is not being simplistic, that is being flat out boring. That style does not suit Metallica, they are better with music that flows and has decent structure. The riffs in some parts of Lulu were not that bad but again it was repetitive.

I do think the rubbishing of Lou Reed by some dramatic fans mainly at those who sent death threats are over the top lol I like Lou Reed for his work in Velvet Underground and other solo stuff.
