Re: Kansas

I finally picked up 1979's release Monolith on CD, the Japanese pressing of the album. I have my old vinyl copy which has seen better days, but missed this one when it was released here years ago. Nice to have my favorites all on CD in the house now.:D

Monolith is a harbinger of things to come, there is no doubt about Kerry's spiritualism coming to the surface more than ever before, and the album itself has a Stark/Harsh feel to it,,,I don't know how else to describe it. I also think this record was proof that the end of this incarnation of Kansas was imminent, as it turned out Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope both left after the next studio album.

A Glimpse of Home.

Re: Kansas

Until about two years ago, I had only heard Dust In The Wind, Carry On Wayward Son and I owned both Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures on cd.

Their back catalogue was recommended to me, a nice chap from another forum upgraded his collection and gave me some of their earlier albums.

I think they are a fantastic band, I love Leftoverture, Point Of Know Return, Masque, Song For America and Monolith the most.

Audio Visions kicked off the 80`s really well, the Elefante albums I think are excellent too.

I only have freaks Of Nature left to complete collection.

Re: Kansas

I'll have to update my current Kansas list myself, I've got all their studio albums now I think.

But their early recordings will always be my favorites.

Here's the setlist from the Kansas show I saw on Oct.22

Magnum Opus
Belexes
Point Of Know Return
Song For America
On The Other Side
Hold On
Dust In The Wind
The Wall
Miracles Out Of Nowhere
Icarus
Down The Road
Portrait

Encore
Fight Fire With Fire
Carry On Wayward Son

Bassist Billy Greer even got to sing lead a song(Down The Road, originally Robbie Steinhardt)and he basically did all the talking to the crowd.Steve Walsh talked very little and the other members said nothing.
