I was much, much more into prog in the '70s but still love some artists.
Genesis (Gabriel era and the first two post-Gabriel albums)
    King Crimson
    Yes
    Pink Floyd
    Brian Eno

A smattering of others, including Focus, Rush, Renaissance and Tull.

I love Zappa but don't think of him as progressive rock or as part of any other category.
I like ELO and Uriah Heep but never thought of them as prog.

The most progressive Uriah Heep got was with their second album Salisbury. Just listen to the title track. The Look at Yourself album was also pretty proggy. :grinthumb

Pretty Proggy would make for a good prog band name. Preferably with a pretty singer, such as Annie Haslam from Renaissance.

I see your point with Salisbury. I have not heard Look at Yourself in a million years (i.e., the '70s). Those are early UH albums and i'd say they became progressively less progressive and progressively more straight-up hard rock with The Magician's Birthday and Demons & Wizards - with proggy seasonings. You followed that, right? :D

The labels get fuzzy. I'm seeing ELO listed as a prog rock band and don't get that one at all. If they're prog, then so are the Beatles in their psychedelic period.

Agree with you point of view regarding Uriah Heep and ELO. After UH's Look at Yourself they became a more and more of a straight rock band. I never would of thought of ELO as prog.
