Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs

Derek and the Dominos were formed in the spring of 1970 by Eric Clapton with keyboardist Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon, who had all played with Clapton in Delaney, Bonnie & Friends. Duane Allman was also invited by Clapton to sessions to add slide guitar to a number of tracks.

The band released only one studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. The album featured slide guitar from guitarist Duane Allman, who contributed powerful slide guitar work on most of the cuts on the album. His most memorable contribution was to the album's title track, "Layla". The album went on to receive critical acclaim, but initially faltered in sales and in radio airplay. Although released in 1970 it was not until March 1972 that the album's single "Layla" (a tale of unrequited love inspired by Clapton's relationship with his friend George Harrison's wife, Pattie Boyd Harrison) would make the top ten in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The album, which has received praise from both critics and fans alike, is often considered to be the defining achievement of Clapton's career.

1. "I Looked Away" (Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock)
2. "Bell Bottom Blues" (Clapton)
3. "Keep on Growing" (Clapton)
4. "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" (Jimmy Cox)
5. "I Am Yours" (Clapton, Nizami)
6. "Anyday" (Clapton, Whitlock)
7. "Key to the Highway" (Charles Segar, Willie Broonzy)
8. "Tell the Truth" (Clapton, Whitlock)
9. "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?" (Clapton, Whitlock)
10. "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" (Billy Myles)
11. "Little Wing" (Jimi Hendrix)
12. "It's Too Late" (Chuck Willis)
13. "Layla" (Clapton, Jim Gordon)
14. "Thorn Tree in the Garden" (Whitlock)

I saw a Bee Gees documentary where Barry Gibb said that Eric Clapton recommended the group stay at the same address in Florida while they we working on some tracks with the wonderful producer Arif Mardin.......As for Mr. Clapton, man does he make rockin' the guitar the way he does look easy. But then I suppose you might get that impression from all the greats(Page,Richards,etc.......)

Haven't heard it yet :wtf: but I love Eric Claptons interpretations of JJ Cales music. Remember "I'll make love to you anytime" from Backless and Cocaine from Just One Night. These songs introduced me to the incredible music of JJ Cale. Hope to get my copy soon.
Eric Clapton is a great admirer of the music of JJ Cale. Check out their collaboration album "Road to Escondida" which was pretty decent.
