Re: Face The Music
Good.
I just picked up this album a couple of weeks ago, mostly for the instrumental Fire On High, and have listened to it four times. Fire On High is fantastic, one of the best instrumentals of all time which I thought was always released in the early 80's and listened to all the releases around that time never to find it. I didn't think it was released in the mid '70's.
Evil Woman is well, just a great song and Strange Magic is good as well. However the rest album doesn't really capture my ear. The Magical Mystery Tour-esque ballads and pop oriented songs are somewhat pompous IMO. It makes me wonder if Jeff Lynne dumps a whole bottle of maple syrup on his pancakes.
I had a good friend back in high school who was a big ELO fan and I heard a lot of thier music through him and it never raised my eyebrows except for some of thier hits. I have a double CD compilation from the band and I'm happy with that. I don't see myself purchasing another album.
