Re: Electric Light Orchestra

Most of previously unreleased tracks were included in ELO remasters apart from Hello My Old Freind, Buildings Have Eyes, Mandalay and A Matter Of Fact.

Buildings Have Eyes is one of my fav.

Re: Electric Light Orchestra

Zoom really died at retail. Do any of you consider that ELO ?

I do, because after roy wood left, I consider ELO just a name, used
by Jeff Lynne anyway, because he wrote and sang everything, and he
produced it and played over half the instruments, so to me its the Jeff Lynne
show anyway.

But what do you think? Zoom = real ELO Music? or just Jeff lynne using
the name to sell more albums? Richard Tandy did play keyboards on one track
I think thats it, I dont think anybody else from ELO played anything

Re: Electric Light Orchestra

ELO was always Jeff Lynne's band to me. I know in the early years it was much more of a "band", but as time moved forward it became apparent he was head and shoulders the best songwriter(at least when it came to commercially popular songs) it was no surprise by the time Face the Music came out he was in fact the undisputed leader of the group.

Back to Zoom...I can't say much Whobeatle, I don't own a copy and don't think I will pick one up either.;)

Well Zoom, I listened and I thought, Ah, that sounds just like ELO!
and I Noticed how gorgeous the arrangements were, and the sonic
fidelity, and promptly forgot the name of every tune I had just heard
they sounded great, but I wasnt humming Paperback writer or I Cant explain.
very pleasant sounding, but I couldnt name one of the song titles if you
put a gun to my head.

Yeah I think maybe the first two? ELO albums had songwriting contributions
and singing from Roy Wood,, after that. I think Lynne wrote, sang, produced, played most of the instruments on every subsequent track they ever did, I think they had a bass player, that might have written or sang one or two songs over a three album period. Band in name only, just a vehicle for the crafty Jeff Lynne

Re: Electric Light Orchestra

Lynne is the best record producer in his category, you can hear all those harmonies in ELO and Traveling Willburys. Zoom is not that good album IMO, kind of missing something, but does have some good tracks in it.

It Really Doesn't Matter

State Of Mind

Alright

The production is stellar.

There has been critisicm in recent years about Lynne's 80's drum sounds
and different things. Some of his work has dated, whereas I don't think the
original methods of the Beatles, Kinks Who or FLoyd have dated at all.

Still great, great producer.IMO

We all need an editor, Lynne is superb at collaboration and editing. But when
he works on his own, who does he turn to, to edit himself?

Zoom is stellar, but yes something is missing, some kind of soul that allows me normally to remember the names of songs after I hear them

very polished and refined though, not a hair or a note out of place, perfect.
The songs are almost superbly constructed illusions though, where is the heart.

Someone once taught me in making records,, there is substance and there is form. The form is definitely there in spades, the substance? Not sure. Maybe its just me.
