Dream Theater rarely has a set setlist...or at least they didn't when Mike Portnoy was in the band. He kept a detailed list of what songs they played each time they played certain cities so that they would play different songs nearly every time they visited. I don't know if that's still being maintained now that he's no longer in the band.

Not entirely sure on that one. I have heard though that they'ves been doing an incredible job with the shows they've performed since he's been in the band. Especially with the new album, they've got a lot of good chemistry going on between all the members of the band, even without Portnoy.

However, i'm not sure if I can choose between Portnoy and Mangini yet. Portnoy is an incredible musician as Mangini is. So it's tough to tell.

We I'm glad they're all soldering on quite well. When it comes to comparing the two Mikes though....it's still not even close for me. The sheer amount of work with Portnoy easily trumps Mangini on it's own.

I'll agree with you on that one. Portnoy has done well with a lot of things he has put his mind to. From Dream Theater to Avenged Sevenfold. To anything else he's done. A phenomenal musician, easily.

It's a tough one for me to choose, so I don't think I can choose just yet until I see and hear more of Mangini. But for right now, i'll go with Portnoy, for the same reason you put.

I watched the documentary regarding the drummer auditions. Mangini is the right guy for sure.

A Dramatic Turn of Events is still amazing to me, but I have to say, Beneath The Surface is probably one of DT's best songs in any album. Petrucci and LaBrie and everybody sounds absolutely perfect.

Ill be honest the drumming on Dramatic sounded too quiet in portions where I think Mangini should have got to shine.
