Having seen the auditions from the bonus cd I got with the album I love Mangini as a drummer, he looks fired up, really just gets stuck in and enjoys himself, he was the perfect guy for the job, keep him on I say, just next time give him some more volume lol

I hope they don't get Portnoy back, how ****ed for Mangini would that be to get ditched after getting the job not long ago. Take a new direction, don't go backwards. If they get rid of Mangini that would be an incredibly dog thing to do. In my opinion anyway.

I don't really see it as being any different from the Ripper Owens situation. Mangini does a great job in the band as a replacement but it's only a matter of time before Portnoy comes back and fans will rejoice as the return of the original. ;)

Though I do see Riff's point, and I like Mangini as well, I would love to see Portnoy back behind the skins, with a refreshed attitude and mind.

Sorry Riff

It was the bands decision to not let Portnoy back in in the first place though. Portnoy wanted to go back, and they refused. Portnoy just has to move on to different projects, if I remember correctly, his involvement with different projects is why they refused him in the first place, but I could be wrong. Mangini is good for Dream Theater at this stage, and I agree with Riff, they need to move forward, not go back to what they were. I do agree with you as well that it would be cool to see Portnoy on the drums again with Dream Theater, but Mangini also deserves a lengthy chance. He (in my opinion) has already shown his talent, but he deserves at least a couple of years with the band to really get the fans pumped for what he can do.

Mike Portnoy has moved on. He's in like....45 bands and is currently recording in his new power trio with John Sykes and an unnamed drummer. I just think that since Dream Theater was his main band and like his baby for over 20 years it's understandable that it would be hard for him. Mike was on That Metal Show this most recent season and went into a lot of detail on it (somewhat reluctantly) and one thing he said was that he would joke with his band members that if he died he didn't want the band to soldier on without him.

Yeah, I understand that it'd be tough to let it go, especially for him. Portnoy was a key member to Dream Theater, I will admit that. I started listening to them when Portnoy was involved, so it was sad to not see him in the band anymore. However, naturally a band has to move on if the rest of the band members want to continue to make great music. As much as Portnoy probably doesn't want to see them going further without him, the rest of the band has to continue to make great music for their fans. I'd feel worse if the whole band just up and stopped playing music.

Lol its cool, as I said it was my own opinion. I think fans are gonna have to move on especially if thats what the band do.
Ripper Owens at least got to do a second album with JP, if Mangini doesn't get that chance then I think it is a bit harsh thats all.

Great tune, I am listening to the Awake album. Got 5 Dream Theater albums for 20 bucks awhile ago like I did with Dokken, in an 'original album series' box.
