Wanted to add that I liked the 2 tracks posted above Night Terror and Midnight Messiah but preferred the proggier parts more than the chugga chugga metal parts. The other 2 live tracks seemed a bit dull to me as to song structures and I cant say La Bries vocals are very interesting either....just being honest .
Although Jay's video's are excellent, those are not really the songs that I'd put up to highlight what DT is all about. Sure, Pull Me Under was their "hit" back in '92-'93. But Midnight Messiah (a new song) is fairly straightforward, which to me is also not the most appealing. And This Is The Life, is a really good song, but you almost have to be in the room to appreciate it. The videos that I have watched haven't really translated just how great it was.
James Labrie is really inconsistent live. I would classify Boston's show as a good night for him generally.
from what i have hard from them, they suck.
WOW! When I became a fan of DT in mid 1992, my first thought was this is the music Rush should be making.
Your name says you're a Rush and Zeppelin fanatic. Not sure how old you are, but Dream Theater is a direct descendant of Rush. Dream Theater is really, and has always been, an extension of Hemispheres Era Rush. The do lean into their "metal" side a bit, but most of it is pretty technical, but what separates them for me is that they seamlessly float between the heavy and the progressive. Sometimes I like to describe them as the heavy metal version of Yes.
