^^I've never understood 'the stick' DT gets from all sides, by that I mean old folks from my generation and younger people who consider them overindulgent.:nw:

The New album should be out next week, been ages since I listened to any DT records...have to dig out a couple and play them to get in the mood for the new one.:D

I hear the new album is good. There's an interview with JP in this month's Guitar World about it being representative of where the band is now musically.

The new album is better than a lot of the recent output they did with Portnoy. I am glad they parted ways with him actually and gave Mangini a chance because his drumming is fantastic on this album. I don't care what butthurt Portnoy fanboys will say either, this guy brings a lot of energy to the drum kit and has made Dream Theater sound more rejuvenated. The albums prior to A Dramatic were good but starting to be a bit uninspired.

^^I'll give the new DT album a fair hearing KH, after all it's not like there are many prog bands left making new music. And yeah I am a fan of DT, excesses and all.

New album feels like they went a bit heavier and Mangini's drumming on this was superb. The album just gets better and better. Dream Theater have outdone themselves and their past two efforts for sure.

It is because some people cannot cope with a band that is both technical and popular.

Mike Portnoy has a great new blues-rock band called The Winery Dogs, who sound like Black Country Communion and Snakecharmer. Billy Sheehan is on bass and Richie Kotzen does everything else. Kotzen's voice is a revelation (to me, at least), sounding like a cross between Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale. My only concern is that Portnoy rarely stays with anything.
