I was so glad that the Doobies came back as the "original" band not Doobies 2.0 with Michael McDonald
We saw them open for the Allman Brothers.
Still sounding great. Tom Johnston can still hit the notes and Pat Simmons playing is great.
They joined the Allman Brothers for Southbound later.
Easily my favorite song from that album would be Long Train Running:
A few years ago, I posted a video of a kid doing a really funky slap-bass version of the song, jammin' like a champ. Give it a listen. He's not playing the official song in the background, but you don't need it to appreciate his rendition of the bass line:
Looks like 2024 will bring us a new Doobie Brothers album, from the Johnston/Simmons/McFee/McDonald lineup.
It's being touted as their first in 44 years, but it's been 46-48 years since Johnston & McDonald appeared on the same studio album, and even then Johnston's involvement was minimal due to health issues.
