Crazy Horses

Neal Morse (Spock's Beard) did a KILLER rendition of this

There's a message floatin' in the air
Crazy horses ridin' everywhere
It's a warning, it's in every tongue
Gotta stop them crazy horses on the run

What a show, there they go smokin' up the sky, yeah
Crazy horses all got riders, and they're you and I

Crazy horses
Crazy horses
Crazy horses

Never stop and they never die.
They just keep on puffin' how they multiply.
Crazy horses, will they never halt?
If they keep on movin' then it's all our fault.

What a show, there they go smokin' up the sky, yeah
Crazy horses all got riders, and they're you and I

So take a good look around
See what they've done
What they've done, they've done
They've done, they've done

They've done, they've done
They've done

Crazy horses

Just have to say that I've listened to all the songs and read all the lyrics and all your examples are great! :grinthumb Sox-I've never heard the stranglers but I liked the first song :grinthumb

It's about Heroine Soot so yeah a bit shadowy, great keyboard work from Dave Greenfield I reckon. :)

'Ghost Town' by The Specials just perfectly captures the doom and gloom feeling of the times over here in the early eighties - there was the hugely unpopular Thatcher Government, unemployment had gone throught the roof and riots were breaking out across the country.

I remember that well Tray the closest the UK ever came to being a police state .. what with the miners strike and battle of bean fields with the new age travellers ,, bad news every day. Good tune mind you.:)

Ben Folds is a great modern pop songwriter and while a lot of his work centers around eccentric characters and zany scenarios he has plenty of serious subject matter. How many pop radio hits do you know tackle unexpected pregnancy, the selfish thoughts invloved and abortion?

6 am day after Christmas
I throw some clothes on in
The dark
The smell of cold
Car seat is freezing
The world is sleeping and
I am numb
Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down
To Charlotte
They're not home to find us
Out
And we drive
Now that I have found someone
I'm feeling more alone
Than I ever have before

CHORUS:

She's a brick and I'm drowning
Slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed
Nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning
Slowly

They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her
Flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
Can't you see
It's not me you're dying for
Now she's feeling more alone
Than she ever has before

Repeat Chorus

As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me son it's time
To tell the truth
And she broke down and I broke
Down
'cuz I was tired of lying
Driving back to her apartment
For the moment we're alone
She's alone
And I'm alone
Now I know it

Repeat Chorus til end

I love this song!!! :grinthumb

I don't know about you but I kinda tear up when I listen to it.

Queen may have been a straight up rock band but they leaned towards the pop side as well given their mainstream success. This little number is pretty dark in my opinion in both the lyric and music department... plus it happens to be one of my favorite Queen songs. :D

Death On Two Legs

Aah
You suck my blood like a leech
You break the law and you preach
Screw my brain till it hurts
You've taken all my money - and you want more

Misguided old mule
With your pigheaded rules
With your narrow-minded cronies who are fools
Of the first division

Death on two legs
You're tearing me apart
Death on two legs
You never had a heart of your own

Kill joy, bad guy
Big talking, small fry
You're just an old barrow-boy
Have you found a new toy to replace me
Can you face me

But now you can kiss my ass goodbye

Feel good, are you satisfied ?
Do you feel like suicide (I think you should)
Is your conscience all right
Does it plague you at night
Do you feel good - feel good

Aah
Talk like a big business tycoon
But you're just a hot-air balloon
So no one gives you a damn
You're just an overgrown school-boy
Let me tan your hide

A dog with disease
You're the king of the 'sleaze'
Put your money where your mouth is Mr. know all
Was the fin on your back part of the deal...(a shark!)

Death on two legs
Tearing me apart
Death on two legs
You've never had a heart of your own
(You never did, right from the start)

Insane, you should be put inside
You're a sewer-rat decaying in a cesspool of pride
Should be made unemployed
Make yourself null-and-void
Make me feel good
I feel good
