I would put the eighties in Room 101, along with people that shout into mobile phones, place names without possessive nouns, politicians that don't answer questions and 'reality' TV shows.

Surely politicians never answer questions :heheh:

All the underground metal and bands like The Cult and Cure were excellent but there was some real rubbish I am afraid, popular music was at it's worst after about 1982/83 IMO.

There's real rubbish in music in any genre, any year, not just the 80s. But there's also some really great stuff in every genre, every year, including the 80s.

I happen to think The Cure is bland and repetitive, and you think they're excellent.

Depends on the listener.

BTW, Fire Woman is an awesome cut.

IMO there were some real rubbish in the 80's, I agree there was rubbish in other era's but in particular with Stock Aitken and Waterman it went really bad:( and some really bad cover versions / use of classic songs:(
