^^^ that's interesting. (although I do think Eddie just rolled over in his grave a couple of times) :heheh:

Not bad, definitely a different take on the IM classic

Here's something I discovered yesterday. A remake of the Frank Sinatra classic, New York, New York

Cat Power - New York, New York

I wouldn't say it's "The best cover", but it's definitely a very interesting re-telling of this tune.

It's a shame to say, the Bob Seger version is good, but the Metallica version is AWESOME. It always sends a chill down my spine.

2CELLOS "Welcome to the Jungle" is insane. By far one of the most innovative covers I've seen in a while.

A group I'm really into just released a covers c.d. and I thought this was a really solid Tom Petty cover. It covers the feel of the original without turning it on it's heaf too much. In other words it sounds like the bands a fan yet anyone who knows the band, Relient K, can tell it's them because it has just enough of their style. They get the Petty vocal style in their without sounding like a bad overdone impressionist! :grinthumb

Very cool cover, Soot and Stars! I concur with what you said about it. Very crisp, alive kind of a sound, too. Feels a tad slower to me, I dig it.... almost hypnotic. Faithful without being redundant, a solid and enjoyable take on a classic. Is there a lot of Petty influence in their original material? I might have to check them out... :D

I wouldn't say they have an overwhelming Petty influence AAG but if I think about it they do have a lot of rootsy, Americana tinges to it especially in early stages. They started off as like a Christian Rock Blink 182 clone but I started listening to them once they started developing into a real band with various influences. The vocalist has way more of a purity to his voice than Petty's twang but some of the spirit and instrumentals (the occasional banjo is included as well) are ones I could see Petty digging from a songwriters standpoint! Here's a cool laid back performance of a song I dig as a tiny taste:

Forget and Not Slow Down

I won't put this as a "best cover song", but this is really a cool/interesting remake of Judas Priest's classic track, Breaking the Law

Doro - Breaking The Law

I like how it's like a slow acoustic song at first, then adds in some symphony about halfway through.
