Edgar Broughton Band in my case. I've got their greatest hits album and I'm happy with it, because it has all songs I like by them.

I agree with you on Journey and I would add Styx. With those greatest hits you get the slow sappy ballads and not the great rock songs that were never released as singles.

I feel the same way about Styx, much much more than a singles band.

Someone mentioned BTO...I am biased and admit it but their first 3 albums are good, most of my favorite tracks were not the hit singles.

There are a lot of artists that you could get by with just a "Best Of" or a "greatest hits" compilation. More than I could probably want to remember, I'm sure. The first few that come to mind (for me) are:

Bob Dylan
Bruce Springsteen
Neil Young
BTO
Rush
The Guess Who
Steppenwolf
The Who
Beach Boys

Many many bands from the british invasion (zombies, animals, kinks, etc)

Led Zeppelin is one I can think of, if someone didn't want their entire set I would give them Mothership, it has all the best songs.

One thing that pissed me off with Aerosmith is so many compilation albums.
