Like a bit of rock 'n' roll and jazz but not a serious collector.

I have to disagree with The Steve Miller Band and .38 Special. Both have lots of good songs that were never singles

I'm sure you're correct and that you'll find some people in agreement. I went with the premise of the thread where it asks your individual preferences. In both cases, I just wasn't too into each to pursue most of their catalog yet I like them enough to purchase a compile of what I consider to be their best.

I am not a big fan of "greatest hits" compilations (unless I make them myself) but there are a few bands that I would rather collect a compilation than the albums

Beatles

Beach Boys

Janis Joplin

I have more on my list, but will save those for other posts :)

What are some bands or solo artists who you wouldn't go out of your way to buy their CDs and only like certain songs and having their greatest hits or anthologies is enough.

BTW let's imagine music downloading didn't exist :D.

Some of mine :

Bruce Springsteen
Billy Joel
The Eagles
Journey
Supertramp
The Cars
Bon Jovi
Styx
no freaking way. your missing so much great music if u only have supertramp or bruce springsteen's greatest hits. but foreigner and bad company on the other hand
