The seven-song 1973 Allman Brothers Band ‘Brothers and Sisters’ album is the focus of a new box set set to hit stores this summer. The group is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic album with a release that’s expected to include significant bonus material.

Like many recent re-releases, the Allman’s box set will be available in several configurations. The Morton Report says there will be a four-CD Super Deluxe, two-CD Deluxe and single-CD standard edition. There will also be digital and vinyl editions available for the June 25 release.

Bonus features have yet to be announced, but it is rumored that a famous show from the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, Calif. in Sept. 1973 will be included.

‘Brothers and Sisters’ includes the Allman’s biggest radio hit in ‘Ramblin’ Man’ as well as concert favorites like ‘Southbound’ and ‘Jessica.’ This was the first complete album the Allman Brothers Band recorded after the death of guitarist Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley, although Oakley appears on the first three songs (‘Wasted Words,’ ‘Ramblin’ Man’ and ‘Come and Go Blues’). Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams made their debut with the group on ‘Brothers and Sisters.’

Allman Plans Solo Tour

Fresh off the road with the Allman Brothers Band, frontman Gregg Allman has lined up a series of solo tour dates that will keep him on the road through the end of this year and into the first part of 2014.

Allman’s website reveals nearly two dozen dates spread across the eastern and southern parts of the U.S. The tour will start in Montgomery, Ala., on Oct. 11, and wind down on Jan. 8, 2014, in Sarasota, Fla. He also has two solo shows scheduled for April at Australia’s Byron Bay Bluesfest.

The 65-year-old Allman also recently told American Blues Scene that he’s planning to start work on the follow-up record to 2011′s ‘Low Country Blues,’ his first solo album in many years. He was supposed to begin recording sessions for the new LP in May with producer T Bone Burnett, but they were postponed.

Allman said he hopes to hit the studio in November. “I always wanted to do a record merely called ‘All Compositions By …’ and just have my name,” he said. “I’d like to do a record where I wrote every one. It’s probably a goal of every songwriter in the world. Do one record that you totally create.”

Warren Haynes quitting Allmans

Warren-Haynes.jpg

Warren Haynes insists the announcement that he’s leaving the Allman Brothers Band isn’t as much of a surprise as it seemed.

Fans were astonished when it was confirmed that Govt’ Mule man Haynes and fellow guitarist Derek Trucks will both leave the Allmans at the end of 2014.

But as they gear up to celebrate the band’s 45th anniversary, Haynes tells Rolling Stone: “It’s not as big a surprise within our network as some people might think. We’ve been talking about this for a long time.”

He adds: “I value the musical relationships and friendships I have with everybody in this band.” However, he feels that after being in the band since 1989 it’s time for him to focus on Gov’t Mule and spend more time with his family.

But the split might not be permanent. Asked whether it might just be a hiatus, Haynes says: “We’ll see. It’s a good place to kind of stop. I’m sure Gregg [Allman] and I will continue to do stuff in the future.”

I thought he'd already struck out on his own years ago with Government Mule...:blush2: Guess I should come out of my cave more often to see what's going on. :heheh:

I have a couple Govt Mule albums but don't play them very often. Guess I should dust one off to get a feel for Warren again.

Last time I saw Gov't Mule was in a small outdoor venue in Maryland in the 90s. I guess I should crawl out from under my rock more often too.

Anyone like to point me to a greatest hits for a guy who likes the harder (not Grateful Dead at all) edge of this band?

^ Khor, I'm not familiar with any Greatest Hits or best of collections, but if you want harder edge stuff, get ''Live At The Fillmore East''

Have to say I'm not suprised by the Allman Bros. news. I also wouldn't be terribly surprised to see them back together again sometime in the future.

I'm assuming Trucks would like to tour more with his wife and the Tedeschi Trucks Band and maybe Trucks and Haynes will do something with Gov't Mule.

I love Gov't Mule. Live at Fillmore East is a great album as Groovy already stated. But, I'm a big fan of the below album!!
